I was reading on MajorGeeks the other day that they've stopped recommending Defender because they've decided it's pretty much useless. Anyone care to comment?

I tried out Windows Defender, but then I deleted it.
I didn't like it so much.

I still have Windows defender installed, but have not used it in a long time, it was throwing up too many false positives.

I keep it installed in case it does improve though, I'll run a scan with it soon to see if anything has changed.

I have it installed and keep it up-to-date, basically for the same reasons as stated by Capman. Don't really use it though

I run no antivirus, no anti-spyware. All I have is a firewall on my computer.

I do run these programs in Virtual Machines to see how they behave, etc.

Having only 512 MB of RAM, I thought it used to much of my resources for what it does; with lots of RAM the calculation might be different.

I agree, with 4GB of RAM I see no speed lost whatsoever.
