  1. It was loaded with 7.10, had no problems with recognising the wireless adaptor card. I upgraded to 8.04 and it wouldn't recognise the card. I loaned it out and the guy tried to get it working instead of a cable connection. Messed it up, so I tried to reload. I think I just might wait until 8.10 is released and get the CD. Thanks!!
  2. I posted this on the Ubuntu forums about 2 weeks ago and never got a response. This is a Dell latitude C840 laptop. It is one of my loaner laptops and really need to get it loaded. I have 2 7.10 install disks, the hdd has been completely wiped and formatted twice, get the same results. I had to reinstall 7.10. Installation gets just past the screens of file checking and the screen gets short horizontal lines with a small garbled box in the top left corner. The install stops there. Any ideas?? Thanks!
  3. Hey all, I have both 2003 Pro. Enterprise and 2007 Pro Plus disk sets. They are volume licensed for students and faculty. My question is: Does anyone know how many PC's they are allowed to be installed on? The version of office XP Por that I have I've installed on several PC's, no complaining from either Microsoft or Office. Thanks!

    System RAM

I have 4 gig of dual-channel in my system. Which makes gaming rather interresting to say the least!!
  5. That is wierd, this is a buisness comp, and was hit with a download trojan. I takes atleast 5 min for it to shut-down on it's own, among other wierd stuff. Any ideas? As for Norton, the subscription will be up in a couple of months anyway. I'm thinking of replacing it with either NOD32 or Kaspersky's anti-virus.

  7. Well, I got ya on that one-- other than the window and the door, the rest is steel, NOT aluminum. I agree on the cost, concidering that that case was about $60 USD new.(I get discounts)
  8. This is what I do when the same thing happens: Wrtie down the program name and manufacturer (such as Symantec and Norton) Open regedit, and do a search for all of the occurences of the program, delete the keys. Then go to program files and delete the folders, reboot, re-search the registry.
  9. The tower I just put together is high-gloss black, it is a sidewinder XG.
  10. Welcome, enjoy!! :happybday:
  11. She is a pretty young lady New_Age. You had better treat her good or we will find you and cook you up for supper! :D
  12. Alot of the newer good PS's are pretty quiet, I'd sugges checking the manufacurers website for the specs. Look for the dB number--lower is better. Sounds like you have a Seagate HDD, they always have had a whine.
  13. Netgear has issues with heat, is it away from the mounting surface? Air flow all the way around it helps to keep it cooler. :D
  14. I have dial-up It's the only option where I'm at.
  15. I build systems and over-clock constantly. One thing I have learned is DO NOT play with the voltages with these newer processors! The correct voltage, to with-in 1/10 of a volt is critical!! Some it is 1/100 of a volt!! Most systems will let you play with the multipliers and the speed. If you overclock, remember play with the speed first, and try not to go over 1% at a time. If it's stable go more, but don't go over 5% and 8% on the multiplier. That can be a very costly mistake, especially with the new dual-core processors!!
  16. I've build way too many PC's and have 4 of my own, the ONLY HDD I will even consider is Maxtor. I have only had 1 out of probably 500 go bad and it was bad from the factory. I hope that Seagate will maintain the Maxtor quality!!
  17. We will eventually see Vista, however, there will be another major change to the base code, the installer package is going to be changed (obviously). "Release Candidate 1" that should be the main clue. Remember Windows 98? There was 4 major changes to the base code AFTER the initial release, the last change was Windows 98SE.

The only question that is stupid is the one that is not asked!! :D
  19. sickchick----I'm hoping that your AV isn't you on a bad day-- Where did you find her?? I'd like to see the code for her eyes, that gives me a few ideas Thanks for the new AV, I need one on another site!! :D

Sometimes if the scan is on, and Outlook is working; system resource usage will make a large jump up, especially CPU cycles and memory usage. That is a flaw in Outlook that alot of people don't like about it. If you turn off the scan going in and out, it will speed up dramatically.
  21. Well, have you asked "it" what it is?? Myabe it wants a gender--what do you think? :D
