  2. This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line. Answer honestly!!! You are in Florida, Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury. Suddenly you see a woman in the water. She is fighting for her life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer. Somehow the woman looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It's Hillary Clinton! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take her under forever. You have two options-you can save the life of Hillary Clinton, or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world's most powerful women. _________________________________________ So here's the question, and please give an honest answer....... Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white? (PS: I hope I didn't offend anyone here!)
  3. It could be considered biased, just because it is an Apple-related weblog, but the idea put forth in the article seems sound to me and is based on what the original study results showed. Besides, aren't PC sites just as biased? Macs are still prettier n-n
  4. "But if you look closely at the actual report (PDF), you'll see that this claim that Windows is "Most Secure" is based merely on Microsoft's relative speediness in patching security holes." Quoted from: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/03/22/fud-windows...most-secure-os/ I read that article and I'm not convinced that Windows is the most secure. Besides, how many people have Vista? The MacOSX system on the other hand, has updates that bring any Mac built in the last 8 years up to date with the lastest version as long as the user has purchased the major system upgrades such as Jaguar, Panther and Tiger, and they still run better than they ever did. (Limited of course, by processor speed and lack of newer features such as built-in cameras, remotes, updated optical drives, etc.)
  5. Well Sniper, I hope this isn't from your home town! And if it is, what interesting reading habits you have!
  6. The link I put in the last topic was the wrong one! I didn't mean for you to see her whole site, just this video below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsqi2QHXaFI This one is the cute one!
  7. ....and many more! Hope you have a good one!
  8. Are you serious Mr T? If you are, here is what's happening: The wife is asking a hypothetical question: "Would you remarry if I died?" and the husband, lulled into answering her "harmless" questions, accidentally spills the beans that he is cheating on her. The wife's part seems a little enigmatic - did she ask the questions to trip him up? Could be, women are smart that way!
  9. That's just a bunch of added crap. Not everyone wants their pictures automatically downloaded into public folders. A lot of people only want a few select pictures too. I'd be rather p***ed every time a Mac downloaded all the pictures when I just want one (or a small number of them) added to my computer. They certainly wouldn't go into a folder that I didn't want or use either. Stupid Macs. :\ Added crap? I don't see where it's any crappier than the Windows or Vista flavors of camera applications. To address your points in order... Number one: The photos and movies are NOT downloaded to public folders, they are downloaded to YOUR personal directory on your computer, untouchable by anyone but you (and whoever has access to your account on your computer). Number two: As for downloading a few select pictures, what's to keep you from deleting the ones you don't like AFTER downloading them, which makes it much easier to determine whether the picture is a "keeper" or not? (I would never base my judgement of a photo on what I could see in that little 2.5 inch screen on my camera!) Number three: What folder that you didn't want or use? iPhoto organizes huge numbers of photos and movies, (I have 4,717 photos and 39 movies totaling 10 gigabytes on my MacBook right now) in a very fast, efficient and eye-pleasing storage solution. It also provides a method by which you can back up your photos and movies to DVDs or CDs, calculating how many (DVDs/CDs) you would need for the amount of photos and movies you have selected. (And of course, backiing up your photos and movies is highly recommended, no matter what operating system you are using!) I personally depend upon iPhoto and find it to be the easiest, most efficient, fastest, and an elegant way to keep my photos and digital camera movies organized. You should try it sometime, I'll bet you couldn't help but be impressed. Please, take a look at iPhoto here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/ and iLife here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/
  10. On a Mac: * Plug in USB cable to camera and plug into computer. * iPhoto detects the camera automatically, (no driver installation necessary), asking if you want to import the photos (and movies, if you filmed some) and asks whether or not you want to delete them from the camera. * Click "Okay" and check "Erase" (if you want them off the camera). * Photos (and movies) are added to your iPhoto library and remain selected so that you can designate a new album if you wish, or you can move them to an existing album of your choice (such as "Vacations", "Kids", "Family", etc., or whatever albums you have created), if you desire. * Your photos (and movies) are available in iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb for easy creation of slideshows, interactive DVDs, CDs, (that can be played on any DVD player) or uploading to the internet. They are also available for manual manipulation in your "Pictures" folder. Done So basically, Mac and PC do the same things, it's just easier and more elegant on a Mac =D
  11. Wow! I'm impressed! And did you see that MacBook Pro sitting on the coffee table? Even cavemen have good taste!
  12. He said, "Bloody windows!" because he was trying to put pictures of the damage on the web, easy to do with a Mac (but I'm sure with Windows too, if you know how). Anyway, this is an isolated incident and the guy had plenty of warning that something bad was amiss with his MacBook. It's a shame he didn't catch it in time. I'm positive Apple will give him a replacement MacBook asap, they are really good about that. The underdog always has to worry about PR! It breaks my heart to see those photos... (By the way, I am a MacBook Pro user.)
  13. Hi Greenknight! I was trying to find your blog and noticed that you were born the year my family moved to CA, the year after Disneyland opened! Ahh, the memories!

  14. Yes, I have a Blog... of sorts. It is on my Guild Wars page: http://web.mac.com/looseej/iWeb/GuildWars/Blog/Blog.html but not many people leave comments =( It's just a personal page that I have a short mailing list of people for that look at it when I update it.
  15. How to Tell the Sex of a Fly A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter. "What are you doing?" She asked. "Hunting Flies" He responded. "Oh.! Killing any?" She asked. "Yep, 3 males, 2 Females," he replied. Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell them apart?" He responded, "3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone."
  16. Welcome from the Lonely Mac Technician (similar to the Magtag repairman, who never has anything to do...)
  17. Ahh! Refreshing new insight here! Thank you Eldmannen! At least Microsoft has someone good to copy. Vista's interface was a complete ripoff of MacOSX and the new search function is still not as good as Spotlight on the Mac, but they're getting there... Bi0haZarD: Oh! So you are Synapse! Great! Now I know who I'm dealing with here! Sure glad you're back. You've been brainwashed by Tarun The Great haven't you? Seriously though, I don't mind the teasing. Being a Mac Evangelist is my cross to bear I suppose. Always the Underdog. Oh, by the way, I don't usually Monk so bad, I was distracted by a bunch of chat that was going on with some of my former guild members and didn't do such a good job =\
  18. So Bi0haZarD, you play Guild Wars too? What is one of your characters names, I'll look you up sometime! (And it's okay if you don't use a Mac. I feel sorry for you but it's okay.) Eldmannen, to rename a file on the Mac, simply click the name of the file once to select it, then click again, (but don't double-click) for it to become highlighted and in edit mode. Then simply type the new name. It works the same way it does on a PC. Why anyone would want to use F2 to change the name of a file is beyond me, I have never done it that way.
  19. Well Bi0haZarD, that was a long time ago. I would give Macs a chance again. I'm sorry you lost your paper... maybe your "tech" guy was good, maybe not, but seems like it should have been retrievable. Things like that happen sometimes though... Eldmannen, MacBooks have an F2 key, it's just that it's embedded in the keyboard and it's required that the Function key be pressed at the same time to activate. F2 on the Mac does not have the same function as the PC though, so would have done no good. Go here to see all the MacOSX keyboard shortcuts: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459 And here's what Wiki says about function keys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_key Funny, I just tried F2 on my Dell laptop with Vista and nothing happened...
  20. Beautiful! Some really nice images there. (And I just used my Mighty Mouse's scroll button to scroll sideways through the entire thing! Yes, I know not necessary, but I did it because I CAN!)
  21. Not fair! Bi0haZarD? Have you used a fairly new Mac? Of any model? If not, you should, you would experience an elegance you do not find on a PC of any kind. To do a "right-click" on the Mac, simply hold the Control key down and click on the file, works the same as right-clicking on the PC. BUT! the new Macs HAVE a two button mouse. Even better actually, it is a Mighty Mouse! Wireless or wired. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO...plm=MA272LL%2FA http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO...plm=MA086LL%2FA Expensive? Yes, but they work great and have many more features than your standard two button mouse. And if you buy a new Mac you get one with it, the wired variety anyway. (Or you could just buy any old two button mouse for your sis, they all work with Macs too, without having to install a driver, and they are immediately recognized by the Mac.) Come on guys! Give Mac a break!
  22. *sigh* And now I do give up. I am done trying to enlighten you guys. Live with your PCs, I don't care anymore! Lucy
  23. Yes, you may have, but when? Was it back in the days of OS7 or something? Macs have changed so much since then. And now, poised on the brink of the newest operating system, Leopard, I'm anticipating even greater things to come! You have to admit that Vista has copied so many of the MacOSX features and user interface. And Apple's Spotlight search function is still way better than Vista's. I use Vista on my Dell laptop at work and I can see how much has been copied from Apple. I guess it's just natural though to want to look your best... Lucy PS: have you seen the iPhone? I am getting me one? http://www.apple.com/
  24. Baloney! I give up! Educated masses indeed! You guys need to use one before you make these pronouncements. And to the guy who paid 1000 whatever to fix it, you're stupid, you should have just taken the money and bought a new Mac. I give up, I throw in the towel, this is the end! No more Mac vs PC for me =( Lucy/Glade
