Vistapack 2.4

The new version has arrived!!

Nothing new in the resources department, but a whole new patcher made from scratch!

Description:

The Vistapack was originally made with the same tech as XPize to transform your old and boring Windows 2000 rig in a modern looking and feeling OS.

But now its ported to a better installer, for me at least.

With all respect for XPero, but it was a real pain that one...

This one is much better to maintain.

Safety:

It takes the files from the host, backs it up, modifies a sample and puts the modified file back in the system.

This ensures that you are using the latest files so no need for alerts like "Now I am using an old file, what if its updated by MS? Then i will be open for attack..."

Nope, no need to worry. You keep the updated file.

The pack uses ResHacker to change icons, bitmaps and some dialogs, to make it look like the new Windows Vista!

Its rather safe in my opinion, but of course there are some risks when you modify system files.

This is at your own risk!!!

But no need to worry, there are few bugs that cause your pc not to boot or something.

Personally i did not had that happening here.

Of course, when you don't like it, you can uninstall the pack like any other software.

Send me the bugs you find or some remarks, just let me know.

No disrespect was intended. Maybe I was a little blunt. Didn't mean anything personal.

But I don't know you, and if someone who just registered their account on a forum, and that I never heard of before, makes a post, and that very first post contains a link to an executable, then that could indeed be considered a bit suspicious.

Thanks for sharing, I hope there are people who do appreciate your work, but personally I don't think it looks very similar to Windows Vista.

And patching executables is not clean, its a rather dirty hack.

Sorry for being blunt. Welcome to the Lunarsoft forums, enjoy your stay and good luck.

and why do you think it does not look like vista?

Because when I put it side-by-side with a screenshot of Vista, I don't see much of similarities.

The look of Vista is not in the icons, its in the glossy black start menu and the tinted half-transparent window decoration.

well that's touche for you, but thats something that cant be done in win 2000.

so its as close as i can get!

or do you know of a way to implement it in to win 2000?

any help is welcome, even if we started on the wrong foot!

thanx for the feedback.

Well, Windows 2000 doesn't have any native theme-ability functionality, but it might be possible to theme it with third-party software such as WindowBlinds.

Find a Vista theme for XP, I am sure there are many people who would appreciate that. :happybday:

Personally, I run XP but use the "Classic Windows"-look as used by Windows 2000.

@ tarun.

well i just go along with the changes, so i dont know if its usefull.

because the changes are at the moment so small...

it is not worth a version.

so any ideas?

@eldmannen

windows blinds is a idea but is there not something thats free?

i dont want any problems you know.

No, WindowBlinds is not free. I don't know any app which is free either.

WildBill was working on a project called TClock3 which could skin the taskbar/start button etc. (with transparancy). The original thread is a little cold but I know that he is still around. He might be on to TClock4 by now :happybday:
