Flexibility

PeaZip can deploy fast compression in ZIP and TAR.GZ formats, or very efficient speed / high compression ratio tradeoff in 7Z, BZ or ARC formats, or even highest levels of compression using PAQ family algorithms.

For any use PeaZip will help you in finding the better tool, since in compression field it doesn't exists a single best tool for all, but rather exist many good tools each fitting at best specific user's needs.

Compatibility

PeaZip can handle many archive and compression formats both from Windows and Unix worlds, ranging from mainstream TAR and ZIP formats to experimental ones like PAQ/LPAQ. It is a reliable solution for most of the archive types you may met.

Portability

You can use PeaZip on all Windows version and on Linux with basically the same features and look and feel: you can rely on the same archive utility on multiple systems and desktop environments. PeaZip is also available as standalone application, so you can even bring it with you whith no need to install it.

Security

PeaZip is focused on security and supports multiple encrypted archive formats:

7Z, with AES256 encryption;

FreeARC's ARC, with AES256, Blowfish, Twofish256 and Serpent256 encryption;

PEA, with AES256 authenticated encryption (EAX mode);

ZIP with WinZip's AE encryption based on AES256.

Moreover ARC format protects archives against corruption employing recovery records.

Free as in freedom

PeaZip is free of charge, and also free as in freedom since it's Open Source and contains exclusively Open Source components released under OSI approved licenses.

PeaZip is a free, open source (LGPLv3), cross platform file and archive manager; it supports handling 72 file extensions with especial focus on open source archive types:
