Blame it all on Farmville :) :

... now that 3.6.4 has shipped, we are seeing an increasing number of reports that some users are unable to play Farmville, because Farmville hangs the browser long enough for out timeout to trigger and kill it.

Actually, it's not just Farmville, just mostly Farmville, (there are some other scenarios) but all that 3.6.6. does is increase the Timeout before Firefox kills a crashed/hung/slow/unresponsive Flash plugin. It's probably the smallest patch for Firefox ever issued.

That's not Firefox's problem though. It's the problem of all those poorly coded *ville flash apps.

It becomes Firefox's problem if it turns users against Firefox. If somebody's game suddenly stops working, telling them it's badly coded isn't going to mollify them.

Anyway, badly coded Flash apps are all over the place, sad to say; the browser needs to be able to load them, even if it takes longer than it should.

That's pretty much the way the discussion over at Mozilla went.

If an average user was happy to run Fx 3.6.3 or earlier, then an upgrade to Fx 3.6.4 stops their favourite game working, they're going to blame Firefox, regardless of who is really to blame. I expect the crash protection feature of Firefox will be modified in future versions based upon user experience of both 3.6.4 and 3.6.6. There's already been a complaint that going from 3.6.4 to 3.6.6 has stopped something else (a developer environment) from working.
