System slowly stopping since I said OK to Windows Genuine (Dis) Advantage some months ago!

Judging by the thread title, I have to assume you're saying you're getting a Windows Installer 1706 error about the HP SDP application. The only advice I can give you is to remove its entry using Windows Installer Clean-up Utility (search microsoft.com for that).
