Monkey Proof Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 hmm, just for kicks, try disabling your firewall if you dare to. then try it again. Quote
krit86lr Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 Yep, that did it. ZA didn't ask for permission, which is strange. I told ZA to allow AVAST, and now it's working properly. Phew, I didn't want to change firewalls too. Thanks MP  Quote
Monkey Proof Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I hate Zone Alarm... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> and can you us why? posting reasons why you dont like a particular software (whatever it is) can possibly help other users in deciding wheter or not they will try it out. when i had Zone Alarm i was real impressed with it. for me it was simple to use, nice user interface, and seemed to offer adequate protection for my machine. New_Age Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Its not really the fact that I hate it. It's just... I don't see a reason to use Firewalls. I use the Windows Xp Sp2 and the one in my Router. I have used ZoneAlarm in the past and I thought it was to buggy and it kept asking me to approve all these random connections and all. Quote

The reason to use Firewalls is to keep malware from getting on your pc in the first place. It's your best line of defense. ZA isn't buggy, it was asking you to approve connections so that you always knew/know what is connecting to your pc. Most good software firewalls require some sort of configuration, and approval from you AT FIRST. I'm don't ranting....for now. Quote
New_Age Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 krit86lr, I already knew all what you just stated. Well, actually. I can't figure out who to go with. I've thought about some and don't know who to turn too. Any company you point out to me on your reply I'll probably know of. I only go towards the freeware ones though. I might go back o ZA but IDK.... Note: Avast! and ZA don't go well together Quote
Monkey Proof Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 have you tried Outpost Free? in my opinion it's a far more advanced Firewall then ZoneAlarm. Outpost has more features, better protection, and will actualy increase your connection time. Quote
krit86lr Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 and will actualy increase your connection time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, if you can get it configured correctly. :eyeroll: Quote
krit86lr Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Note: Avast! and ZA don't go well together <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep! LOL Quote
Capman Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Note: Avast! and ZA don't go well together <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They do on my computer. Quote
krit86lr Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Note: Avast! and ZA don't go well together <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They do on my computer. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe, but Avast specifically gives a warning during installation that there is a conflict between the two. Quote
Capman Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Maybe, but Avast specifically gives a warning during installation that there is a conflict between the two. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep, and I chose to ignore it. Quote
New_Age Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 You must not realize the conflict cause it may not be noticeable but I guess if you like ZA then o... well. Quote
