October 25, 200718 yr Hello, I was wondering if DAF works with Windows Vista. I can''t install some Windows Update. I purchase an eMachine a few months ago and everything was updating okay...for awhile. Now, I basically ignore the update (or Red Icon next to the lock Icon) upon shutdown. It seems fickle. When I boot up the Icon appear grey and happy -but other times it turns red. It might be red when I boot up - I've become somewhat jaded : ( Thanks! Clueless
October 26, 200718 yr Open Task Manager (control+shift+escape), go to the Processes tab and click "Show processes for all users" which will elevate Task Manager to admin. Then click File > New Task (Run)... and type CMD in the box and hit OK. Close task manager. From the elevated command prompt type all of the following: net stop cryptsvc net stop bits net stop wuauserv regsvr32 cryptdlg regsvr32 cryptui regsvr32 cryptext regsvr32 dssenh regsvr32 mssign32 regsvr32 mssip32 regsvr32 scecli regsvr32 softpub regsvr32 rsaenh regsvr32 winhttp regsvr32 wintrust regsvr32 licmgr10 regsvr32 wucltux regsvr32 wuapi regsvr32 wups regsvr32 wups2 regsvr32 wuwebv rmdir /s /q %systemroot%\system32\softwaredistribution net start cryptsvc net start bits net start wuauserv Then try Windows Update again. Dial-a-fix will not be ready for Vista for several more months.
November 23, 200718 yr Trey: I'd decided to give up on supporting Vista for now. Try Microsoft PSS. Also, did you do this from an elevated command prompt?
