greenknight Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 The long awaited fifth release of Anti-Malware will be available soon. In addition to major improvements such as x64 support, a new file guard and innumerable small improvements the new version also has a number of changes to the fundamental structure of the product. Name change: Emsisoft Anti-Malware Farewell a-squared! As of version 5.0 "a-squared Anti-Malware" will now be called "Emsisoft Anti-Malware". This change is being made for the following reasons: * Too many non-English speaking customers have problems correctly speaking the name "a-squared". * Although the name "a-squared" is unique worldwide it says nothing about the nature of the software. * Product names that are too long have proven somewhat confusing in the past. New Freeware mode Emsisoft Anti-Malware can now still be used in a restricted form once a license has expired. The limitations of the free version are basically the same as those of the current "a-squared Free" product. The scanner and cleaning functions are available but all protection functions are disabled in Freeware mode. a-squared Free becomes the Emsisoft Emergency Kit Emsisoft Emergency Kit Don't panic, a-squared Free will still be available free of charge. It will just be renamed. The Emsisoft Emergency Kit will be optimized to allow PCs to be quickly checked for Malware infections and cleaned if necessary. Comment: The "A-Squared" name hasn't fit since they added anti-virus, anyway - it covers 5 categories of malware now, instead of 4. If the "Emergency Kit" really can "quickly" check for infections, that will be a big improvement over the current scanner. Quote
