JustDave
My word what a wonderful program. I've just finished a 3 week email exchange w/MS regarding update problems...haven't been able to download, much less install updates for the past 2 months. I say finished because their final answer was to "just reinstall Windows." Argh. I just downloaded and ran dial-a-fix (suggested on the IOBit forum) and then sucessfully downloaded and installed 12 WinXP updates. I'm still erroring on Office 2003 and dot-Net updates, (I need to email the log) but that's for tomorrow. I sent a small offering your way...wish it could have been more, but not right now. You can believe that I'll be I'll be referring folk to your site. Dave
JustDave
OK. Running Dial-a-fix resulted in me now being able to download all updates, and successfully install OS updates. Office 2003 and dot Net installs still fail. I initially ran MSI and WU/WUAU fixes, then after a little more reading, did Flush SoftwareDIstribution both Yes and No. I also ran Repair permissions. That still leaves one error, unregistering qmgrprxy.dll, and the Office and dot Net updates which fail installation. See log portion below... Administrator Tarun Posted June 25, 2007 Administrator Share Posted June 25, 2007 Press the green checkmark and click Go. This might resolve some other issues that may not yet be seen. :hello:
JustDave
Thanks. I'm generally wary of the shotgun approach, but DAF has been dead-on so far. I'll try it when I get home and update.
JustDave
Same results. In troubleshooting the Office 2003 update install error I stopped, started, then replaced ose.exe. No change. In troubleshooting the .NET update install error I reinstalled .NET 2.0. No change. The qmgrprxy.dll access denied error is the only DAF error. Same results run in safe mode as administrator. greenknight
Did you try the Repair Permissions tool? Clicking the hammer icon brings up the "Tools" menu.
DjLizard
Did you try the Repair Permissions tool? Clicking the hammer icon brings up the "Tools" menu. This is the correct answer Thanks for your contribution! You may also need to remove all versions of .NET Framework (especially 1.1 which is the buggiest) and let it download them all from Windows Update. JustDave
Did repair permissions. Did green arrow and go. I'll uninstall both .NETs and see where that gets me. Thanks for the help gang.
JustDave
Hi ho. Subsequent monkeying resulted in da sam ting. Uninstalled .NET 1.1 & 2.0. Rebooted. Cleaned registry w/JV16PowerTools. Ran DAF...repair permissions...flush SoftwareDist (I even jiggled the handle)...reinstall bits (just for grins)...green arrow go. Still get error unregistering qmgrprxy.dll. Microsoft update - Office updates downloaded but but failed install with a 0x80070643 error. (OSE service is running) Reinstalled .NET 2.0. Microsoft update - Office updates fail as above. .NET updates fail with a 0x643 error. I'm starting to think "Updates? We don' need no stinkin' updates!" JustDave
Well, I've played with this off and on for the past 2 1/2 months (research involving rather larger than usual volumes of tequila and Barbecued Fritos and a never say die attitude) and I finally found the answer. Check out MS KB article #884298. Not exactly the same issue definition as mine, but when I created the Path key and typed in the string "I:\", Windows Update found, downloaded and installed all previously faulted Office 2003 updates. Freakin' magic. Done and done.
