April 24, 200818 yr During the install you are prompted to remove AVG Anti-Spyware if it is detected, or it will perform the uninstall for you. I wonder what that is all about.
April 25, 200818 yr Author Administrator They're discontinuing AVG Anti Spyware and AVG Anti Rootkit... If you want them you have to get AVG 8 Internet Security. http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-an...nd-anti-rootkit
April 25, 200818 yr Oh, I see, thanks for that. It seems to be a sure way to lose users to other products though.
April 25, 200818 yr AVG Free 8.0 includes anti-spyware as well as anti-virus protection, making AVG Free Anti-Spyware redundant. Not sure if that's real-time anti-spyware protection - the features of the different versions are described (none too clearly) here: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-an...us-free-edition They really seem to emphasize the limitations of the free version, probably why the descriptions of its features are a little vague.
April 26, 200818 yr I've gotten AVG 8.0 installed, and I can confirm that it does have real-time anti-spyware protection. This is functionality you used to have to pay to get, so I don't think too many will be upset. It's a big download, though, 45.5 MB. Scans take longer, too.
