Capman
During the install you are prompted to remove AVG Anti-Spyware if it is detected, or it will perform the uninstall for you. I wonder what that is all about.
Administrator Tarun Posted April 25, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted April 25, 2008 They're discontinuing AVG Anti Spyware and AVG Anti Rootkit... If you want them you have to get AVG 8 Internet Security. http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-an...nd-anti-rootkit
Capman
Oh, I see, thanks for that. It seems to be a sure way to lose users to other products though.
greenknight
AVG Free 8.0 includes anti-spyware as well as anti-virus protection, making AVG Free Anti-Spyware redundant. Not sure if that's real-time anti-spyware protection - the features of the different versions are described (none too clearly) here: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-an...us-free-edition They really seem to emphasize the limitations of the free version, probably why the descriptions of its features are a little vague. greenknight
I've gotten AVG 8.0 installed, and I can confirm that it does have real-time anti-spyware protection. This is functionality you used to have to pay to get, so I don't think too many will be upset. It's a big download, though, 45.5 MB. Scans take longer, too.
