debracha11 Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 Hi debracha11 and welcome to Lunarsoft, Have you gone through the PC Maintenance wiki page and used the Anti-Malware applications yet? There are still a few infections in your log file. Tarun I am downloading and installing the programs from the PC Maintenance page once done I shall go through your instructions on cleaning page and then redo the Hijack this log. I am sorry for the time delay in replying but it has been a nightmare just getting on the internet McAfee is removing Trojans quicker than I can read them!! Will get back to you shortly. Many thanks Debra Hello again I have gone through all cleaning processes but they did not seem to find much I have included another Hijack this log but before you read through this I would like to let you know that now I cannot gain access to System Restore it is not there also I cannot do any live updates from Microsoft. It states my updates are turned off but yet they show that they are running. When I try to restart the updates processes in services it states Error 1058 Service cannot be started either it is disabled or no enabled devices. Windows tries to re-register Live Updates for me but there is an error there also. I have tried the DjLizards Dial a fix but it states it cannot register the Live updates files for me. Please help me as this is all getting worse I still have popups coming up telling me my PC may be infected and McAfee keeps deleting Trojans for me I am just about on the verge of a reinstall but will loose lots of work if I do. Many thanks for your help. Administrator Tarun Posted May 29, 2008 Administrator Posted May 29, 2008 There are still several infections present. I recommend running Malwarebytes AntiMalware as it can remove many of the random named files that are malicious. How long until your McAfee subscription is up? I ask because there is a free antivirus that has better detection and removal rates. It's called avast and it has a special boot-time scanner that can remove trojans and other viruses before you even get into Windows. It is extremely useful! :)

Thankyou for helping me again so quickly McAfee is fairly new I traded in Norton for it only a couple of weeks ago. However that doesnt matter because if Avast does the same but better then I shall try that I presume I would have to uninstall McAfee. I shall try the Malwarebytes that you recommend right now. Thankyou Debra
debracha11 Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 Right I have run the Malawarebytes program and it found and removed 32 infections. I have now included the latest Hijack this Log below. I still have not auto updates or system restore on the PC and also when I try to load a program such as Malawabytes I get a popup " Windows Installer" Feature you are trying to use is on a CD Rom or removable disk that is not available Insert the Norton 360 Disc and press continue" When I just hit the cancel button on this popup box 4 - 5 times the program ie., Malawabytes then starts up. I do hope that I am getting closer to sorting this out you have all been so helpful up to now. Administrator Tarun Posted May 29, 2008 Administrator Posted May 29, 2008 Okay, there are no more visible infections which is definitely good! I highly recommend uninstalling any and all toolbars. Even if they are safe (like SiteAdvisor) because they attach themselves to Windows Explorer. I also recommend that you update your Java. You can do so with the assistance of JavaRa. As of this post, the latest version of Sun's Java is 1.5.06. Since there are leftovers from Norton/Symantec programs, you can download and run SymNRT to get rid of the traces. As for avast, I have used it many times and it finds infections that many pay anti virus applications completely miss. It's free to use and register plus it's very light on your computer too. Here's what to fix with HijackThis. Be sure to remove the red items, the rest are up to you. Generated by Tarun of Lunarsoft's HijackThis Converter v0.53 Beta. Default-color items are optional, red are known to be malicious. debracha11 Posted May 31, 2008 Author Posted May 31, 2008 Dear Tarun I apologise for the delay in replying to your wonderfully helpful and clear to follow instructions I just wanted to thankyou and those who replied to my Distress call. Every thing is clean and the fixes done in Hijack this. All toolbars are gone NO VIRUS' and also traces of Norton removed, my Pc is running like a dream thanks to you and I am no longer suffering with stress I shall be giving the Avast a try most definately. I just want to say to anyone reading this who thinks the end of their PC has come and no possiblities of them fixing it, if the support on this forum can advise me and take me through things successfully then it will be a breeze for anyone else. THANKYOU so very much. Debra Oh just a warning I am now checking out my daughters laptop so you could be hearing from me again in the near future ;)
Administrator Tarun Posted May 31, 2008 Administrator Posted May 31, 2008 Thanks for the kind words Debra, happy to hear everything has cleared up. Now that your computer is clean, you may wish to create a clean System Restore point and clean out the old ones. This is a very easy process. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore Next, you'll create the new System Restore point. You can name it anything you like, such as "PC Clean". To clean the older System Restore points, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup In Disk Cleanup click the More Options tab. At the bottom you'll see System Restore. Click the "Clean up..." button. Windows will ask if you want to clean up all except the most recent System Restore point (which would be the one you just created). You'll now have a place that you can restore if you need to where your computer has had the infections cleaned up. Feel free to post your daughter's laptop HijackThis log and we'll check it out and help tune it up! :D
