I bought my phone without any subscription, just the phone. Then I went to a store and bought a pre-paid SIM card, that I can reload with money when it gets low on money. So I am not tied in any way, to any vendor by subscription. So I can whenever I want buy a new phone, or buy a new pre-paid SIM card, or get a subscription from any vendor.
