My daughter's dropped her Apple laptop and not it won't start. The wireless mouse receiver was plugged into the laptop's USB port and when the unit fell the receiver jammed a little into the USB port ant the port got bent. Since this happened the laptop won't turn on. Does anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong and possibly how to fix it? Thanks

  3. This update was just released yesterday. Numerous Asus routers are supported. This was a feature that was also found and slowly being implemented into Tomato. Now it's built into the Merlin firmware by default. The great thing about this is that it enhances and improves security overall, and it far more secure than DNS over HTTPS. I strongly recommend making use of this feature. Read more about it here: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/DNS-Privacy Downloads: https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/download

  11. After upgrading my Psu to 750 Watts and video card from Gts 250 to Gtx 560 Ti, I was checking temps of my video card and cpu. Turn out my video card temp is fine but my CPU temp seemed high to me. I have a Intel E8400 3.0 Ghz CPU, During idling it sits at around 50-60 degrees C, while gaming it jumps to anywhere from 80-95. Is this normal? I have one fan on the rear of my comp on exhaust at this moment. I am also using the heatsink/fan my CPU came with.

  13. Started by Eeyore,

So with my recent purchase of Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim I figured i might as well upgrade my Graphics card. its a ATI 6570 Radeon HD card and i was thinking i would go to a least 6870. Current Specs in attachment from my dxdiag. i also have a 350W power supply that i would most likely need to upgrade to, i am thinking, a 500 W at least. DxDiag.txt

  14. Started by Sniper,

I managed to snag the last one in my area. 10" touch screen, 1.2 Ghz processor, 1 Gig system memory, 32 Gig storage memory, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. They came on the market on July 1, for $499. Nobody bought them because they only had 300 apps and the IPad2 was the same price, with 9,000 available apps. On August 20, HP told the vendors to drop the price to $99 for the 16 Gig model and $149 for the 32 Gig. For a buck fitty........I don't give a rat's butt how many apps are available.

  15. Helping a friend try to make an Acer Aspire M1610 desktop (ca. late 2007) work. OS is 32-bit Vista. The computer belonged to an older gentleman who rarely used it and never updated it, so I started by cleaning out the garbage with CCleaner, then updating Vista thru SP2. During the update processes, it crashed 3-4 time (BSOD). Last thing I installed on it was Google Earth, which crashed it if you attempted to drag the border of the GE window out to make it larger, and sometimes just when GE loaded. The computer came with the minimum 1GB RAM required to run Vista, and it was VERY slow doing everything, so I suggested replacing one of the 512MB memory DIMMs with a 2GB DIM…

  16. I've had a Canon Pixma MP600 for slightly more than 4 years. It worked perfectly every day until yesterday. Turned it on and it presented me with an error message saying that something "incompatible" was plugged into one of it's camera ports. Nothing was plugged into any port. I searched the Web for the message and found several forms saying that it was really a paper jam error, and that the error occurred probably because a tiny lever inside the back of the printer was stuck on. The way to unstick it was to use a piece of heavy paper, fold over ~1cm. of top of the sheet, insert the sheet over the rubber rollers in the back as far as it would go with the folded part …

  17. Not as exciting as rridgely's new computer, but I've finally got a better video card - and will soon be installing a much faster processor. I decided the way to upgrade this old computer was with parts pulled from other old computers (when I discovered how super-cheap they are). So I'm now running an ATI Radeon 7500 32MB 4X AGP card - yeah, I know, still pretty weak. A BIG improvement over the old SiS 6326 8MB 2X AGP card it replaced, though (don't know why that even worked, 2X AGP cards are not supposed to go in 4X slots). Browsing is noticeably snappier with this card, I guess the old one couldn't even handle Web graphics gracefully. This one's said to be a Dell O…

  18. I was wanting to upgrade the graphics on my 3+ year-old computer, that was running a GeForce 8400 card with 256 Mb of memory. My problem was I didn't want to replace my 350 watt power supply AND the graphics card. I got a good deal on a Galaxy 210 with 512 Mb memory, $18+ after rebate, but it really didn't make a big improvement in the graphics. Then I found the Zotac GeForce 440 GT with 1 Gig of GDDR5 memory. Tigerdirect has them for $90 and a $20 rebate. The real winner is, this card will run with a power supply of just 300 watts. It takes up 2 slots so I moved my sound card down a slot, to give more air space between the two. Card installed without a hitch and runs 10 …

  19. Can someone recommend some good speakers for my PC? I believe they need to be USB because my old speakers that you plug into the back of the PC don't work. Only the ear phones reproduce sound when connected to the audio output. Thanks in advance.

My old computer was put out of commission due to a power surge which fried the Motherboard. I just got a new PC and would like to know what is the best way to access my working files from the hard drive of the old computer. PS: wasn't sure where to post this question. Thanks in advance.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12614074 That's a tentative list of all the parts I'm looking at. Will probably fork over the $20 to get the 1TB Caviar Black. I'm open to suggestions about most anything as I have never attempted to build a computer before. Oh, and my budget is ~$900 after rebates. Omega.

  22. Okay, remember - please be patient with me, I'm not the most computer literate person in the world, lol. I just got an HP Mini 311-1037NR Netbook: Processor: 1.6GHz System Memory: 2 GB RAM Storage Hard Drive: 160 GB This is to be used when traveling - for email, surfing the net, and occasionally creating documents. I don't want to overload it, and I want to know if it can support Office Home/Business and itunes without slowing it down. Also, I'd like to get an external and very portable DVD/CD drive and have absolutely no clue what I need to look for or what brand is a good one to buy - any suggestions/tips would be appreciated. One other thing, I have…

  23. Ok, thank god this place still exists, long time no see everyone! My temper is on its last leg, so im just going to lay out my problem, and hope for the best. I currently have two wireless routers, a Cisco WRVS4400N and a Linksys WRT320N. Currently, the WRVS4400N is hooked up to my modem and broadcasting in one part of my house on a mixed G/N on channel 11. On the complete other side of the house, I have the WRT320N set up, and an ethernet cord runs from one router to the other. Please, dear god, can someone give me a bulletproof way to extend my wireless network, so that laptops can seamlessly jump from router to router and only have one SSID broadcasting. From what i…

  24. Started by Ultric,

My dad recently bought a laptop off of craigslist. It had been running the beta of Windows 7 and had a lot of junk on it. He managed to restore the laptop's original OS (Vista), but it was running slow and didn't really work right. He tried to restore the computer using the recovery partition, but it apparently failed. He also tried using my laptop to burn a recovery disk to see if it would work too (since they're similar models), but that didn't work either. I'm pretty sure it's a dv9610 from HP. He just sent it off to a shop to get it looked at, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here in case anyone might have an idea. It started a few times, but after a while, it…

  25. I've been having problems with my screen whilst at university whereby the screen of my laptop will go black or other colours with loads of different coloured lines, but it appears windows is still running as, for example, I can hear music still running, and I also don't think it is a Windows issue as sometimes the lines pop up on boot. After having run SpeedFan it shows there to be a flame to my GPU temperature which is on average about 70C. Also, my core occasionally hits 50C which leads to being apparently too hot? Thoughts? I also believe it to be a hardware issue as the issue frequently arises at university whilst back home it is a lot cooler and the issue has…
