I'm trying out Opera 9.63 at the moment, but as a long-tem Firefox user the first thing I miss is AdBlock Plus. What's the equivalent in Opera?

I've made some progress with Opera, whilst still learning how to do things that are by now almost second-nature in Firefox. (Just don't mention FF3's Awsome Awful Bar, because I prefer FF2's behaviour.) It turns out Opera does have a content blocker, which takes URLs (with wild cards) or you can put a similar list in urlfilter.ini and put that in your profile.

However, rick752 AFAIK, who writes the EasyList/EasyElement and EasyPrivacy block lists does this only for Firefox with Adblock Plus.

There was an article about rick752 in the Washington Post last year (see One Man, One Long List, No More Web Ads). You can also read it ad-free :) at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/24/AR2008062401287_pf.html but without the photograph as well.

I've seen, but not tried, other lists for Adblock Plus and I've found that fanboy (http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/) does lists for both. There's also some rather shorter lists on the my.Opera pages. I've not yet tried those either. Most of the stuff I've read so far doesn't seem to have caught up with the fact that Opera now has a content-blocker that looks a bit like the Adblock Plus when you open it up. Everyone seems to be still working on the older urlfilter.ini idea.

Anyone have any experience at doing any of this in Opera? Anyone with a favourite block list for Opera?
