greenknight Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I can't run online AV scans in safe mode because I can't get online. I boot in safe mode with networking, but when I try to dial up I get "Error: Please install modem". On the Control Panel the "Phone and Modem" icon is not even there. What's with that?
Administrator Tarun Posted October 31, 2005 Administrator Posted October 31, 2005 Safe Mode loads the bare minimum to get into Windows XP. The networking is probably the LAN.
greenknight Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 It must work in some versions of Windows, but apparently not this one. Not really important, just wondered if there was some kind of workaround.
Administrator Tarun Posted November 1, 2005 Administrator Posted November 1, 2005 I'll look into it for you and report what I find. ;)
Inu-ya Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Safe Mode is not for Online Purposess. It's only to take care of Business such as: Removing certain programs that won't Uninstall under Windows Itself and defrag which I recommend to myself. But other then getting on the Internet. Nope no way, no how
Inu-ya Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Well, I'm on Wireless so.. no luck for me
greenknight Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 It's just that I've seen instructions to run online virus scans in safe mode. It often says that if you can't get online in safe mode, do it in normal mode, but never is it explained why you might not be able to get online in safe mode. I suppose there's no way to make it work with dialup, no big deal anyway.
