Support for Windows XP will be ending on April 8th, 2014. Taking that into account, along with how few people are looking for support for Windows XP on this forum it leads me to share an early notice that this subforum will close and be moved to Legacy Windows. That means this subforum will be archived. However, should activity pick up in this forum then it will remain open. It does look as though many people have since moved on from Windows XP to a better, more modern OS. Until the end of April May (per requests) hits, this topic will remain open and discussion allowed whether or not it should remain open past the end of April.

Everyone loves to use custom themes for their Windows installation. Now that Service Pack 3 is available many users have started updating their system. The UXTheme.dll file gets updated in Service Pack 3, so if you have patched it in SP2 you lose your custom themes. But thanks to damian666 you won't lose your themes anymore! damian666 has released a patch for Service Pack 3 that automates the patching process of the UXTheme.dll file. Caution Some parts of this patcher do not verify that the patch changes have been applied. This patch is currently under review. Please use at your own risk! I'm sorry to bother you, however, I was not sure were to place this question, so I started here. On my older desktop computer with OS Windows ME I received the dialog box-----Certificate Information. I was asked to validate certificate authority *.vo.msecnd.net for the period 4/14/2014 to 4/13/2016. This was issued by: MSIT Machine Auth CA 2, Baltimore Cyber Trust Root, Microsoft Internet Authority. This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification authority. Please advise if *.vo.msecnd.net is a valid certificate authority? Should I okay this CA? Thank you.

My 16X DVD+/-RW CD-RW COMBO Drive will not read disks I have burned or new blank disks. I'm thinking this is something new because I haven't burned a disk in over a year, but don't know what caused it. It has no trouble reading game disks. I took a couple of the burned disks to a friend's house and her drive opened them right up. I have tried several web-found suggestions, such as deleting the UpperFilters and LowerFilters keys in the Registry. I've also tried doing diagnostics, which say there is no disk in the drive when using a burned or blank disk, but will diagnose the drive with a game disk in it just fine. If I put a burned or blank cd in the drive, and start …

I just replaced the hard drive on my grandson's pc. The PC is a Dell Dimension 8300. I bought the HD on ebay at a low price. I used seatools to check it and it passed. I also did a complete erase. I have my Windows XP CD and not sure what I need to do. I read some where that the SATA drivers are not available on XP. Can someone please provide me some detailed instructions on how to correctly install XP on the hard drive? Thanks EG The XP CD only has SP1 on it. Where can I get the needed SATA Drivers?

In just the last few months I've had trouble getting image files above about 400kb to attach to my emails, whether in my yahoo email or my dishmail.net account (using web mail: "attachment failed") or Outlook Express ("your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.") This is on my PC. I have Kaspersky Antivirus 2012, run Ccleaner frequently, clear my Firefox cache periodically, and have Windows and both browsers up to date. I have another issue going on with IE so I can't use it to attach the file to email through that. My ISP claims it's not an issue with them and I can attach a file and send it using our laptop. Any ideas? (It also occurs with getting ima…

Hello, This is tentative opening of a topic, if i'm in the wrong forum, then I'll defer to pointers. The CD R/W drive does not work. This fault deruved from some softyware installation, which has since been removed. Details below. A week ago, I installed updated driver for my FireGL T2 graphics card (I know it's old, but it works OK), but the update was required to be preinstalled to suit a CAD program called DraftSight by Dasault. It didn't work out, and the unistall was messy with hangs. Also affected was the functionality of SolidWorks, which I have now also uninstalled using Add/Remove Progs. I'm fairly confident that the graphics driver is back to the versi…

Hello, Intro to my problem: OS = XP Pro SP3. Following a malware removal a couple of months ago, all MS Office 2003 Pro Auto Updates failed. Previously they had been successful. Then a few weeks ago, after an auto-upate by MalwareBytes (MBAM), while performing its first scan, an alert appeared saying that MBAM had encountered a problem and needed to close. However, the program continued through to the on screen Log Report, with the must close alert still showing. Thereafter, MBAM, seemed OK. Then a few days later after the next update, the odd behaviour repeated, so I contacted MBAM Support (MBAMS). MBAMS suspected malware, and guided me through a cleanup whic…

Hello all - its been awhile I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 - Service Pack 3 I recently installed a 500gig h/drive and transfered most of my programs to the new hard drive. I also installed Samsung Studio off the disk that came with my cell phone and during the process a "pop-up" asked if I wanted to update. I said yes - BIG MISTAKE! At the very end of the update my screen suddenly went blank and the system re-booted. A message came on the screen about a critical error and then Windows continued to load. I let it run until the end and then ran Advanced Systems Care to see what the problems were. I have attached a copy of my screen where y…

I have tried all the recommended solution to get rid of the Roxio Media Manger pop ups and nothing seems to help. I got rid of all references to Roxio in the registry - some could not be deleted even running in safe mode. What can I do? No new programs will load correctly.

I finally killed the old computer (well, not finally, I'm sure it can be resurrected; just broke off one of the tabs the CPU cooler clamps to... I'm sure I can rig something). Anyway we had another machine waiting in the wings (it was a freebie, and I think I understand why they gave it away), this was just the incentive needed to undertake the hassle of changing over. This is a 2005 emachines, pathetically short of RAM (512 MB of DDR, 128 of which is sucked up by the onboard graphics ) , but I can fix that quick enough. The original owner (who obviously knew nothing about computers, or they never would have bought an emachines), wiped their data by using the emachi…

How THEE HECK can I block the barrage of online surveys that pop up (despite pop up blockers) from various sites which frequently include the name of the site I am using. They claim there is an unsubscibe feature at the bottom of the page - but there are none. This has become a very serious problem. I have gone to Tools, privacy, sites, and attempted to place them on the 'always block' list but they keep on coming. If this is not the right place to ask this question please forgive my ignorance and point me in the right direction - Thanks

Am helping a friend who has an HP Pavilion circa 2006. First, Windows became corrupted, so he ran the recovery disks that he made when the computer was new. It installed the original programs (with all the garbage programs they put on computers back then). I then helped him download and run most of the Win XP updates (thru SP3) and reinstall MS Office 2003 and other programs he wanted. Everything seemed to go well until today when Microsoft Update notified him that more updates had been downloaded and were ready to install. Started the installation. Program was .Net Framework 3.5 w/ SP1; .NF 1.1 was already on the drive, and yesterday we installed .NF 2.0 in order to r…
