Open-Source Single-Player Games?

Recommended Posts

https://sourceforge.net/ has quite a few. There's one I've been testing, FreeCol (still in development but very playable), for instance. Its a Freeware clone of Colonization, a game by the creator of Civilization that was dropped after 1 version was released - possibly due to political incorrectness. The object is to colonize the New World and achieve independence, which is hard (but not impossible) to do without slaughtering the Indians and stealing their land.

Anyway, it can be played single-player or online multi-player. Not a fast-action game, but I like it.

There is Freeciv too. Though, I've never played FreeCol or Freeciv.

SourceForge has lots of different kinds of games, literally thousands of projects. From their Projects Index:

# Games/Entertainment (24692)

* Board Games (1958)

* Card Games (654)

* Console-based Games (482)

* First Person Shooters (1462)

* Multi-User Dungeons (MUD) (1745)

* Puzzle Games (1448)

* Real Time Strategy (1326)

* Role-Playing (4239)

* Side-Scrolling/Arcade Games (1676)

* Simulation (2275)

* Turn Based Strategy (1636)

Some of those are too unfinished to be playable, and some are game engines rather than actual games - but I expect you could find something you'd like.

And some are mods, servers, editors, etc...

Still, there are thousands of games there.
