July 26, 200817 yr I posted this on the Ubuntu forums about 2 weeks ago and never got a response. This is a Dell latitude C840 laptop. It is one of my loaner laptops and really need to get it loaded. I have 2 7.10 install disks, the hdd has been completely wiped and formatted twice, get the same results. I had to reinstall 7.10. Installation gets just past the screens of file checking and the screen gets short horizontal lines with a small garbled box in the top left corner. The install stops there. Any ideas?? Thanks!
July 26, 200817 yr Not sure what you mean with "Installation gets just past the screens of file checking". But small garbled box in the top left corner does not sound good. 7.10 is an old release (from October 2007). I would recommend you to get 8.04 (from April 2008), or wait for the upcoming 8.10 (which is coming in October).
July 26, 200817 yr Author It was loaded with 7.10, had no problems with recognising the wireless adaptor card. I upgraded to 8.04 and it wouldn't recognise the card. I loaned it out and the guy tried to get it working instead of a cable connection. Messed it up, so I tried to reload. I think I just might wait until 8.10 is released and get the CD. Thanks!!
July 26, 200817 yr Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" is scheduled to be released October 30th. * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntrepidReleaseSchedule Looking forward to it. You can also get support in the #ubuntu channel on irc.ubuntu.com (freenode) IRC network.
