He was running Cyberdefender for an antivirus. This much I have remedied and avast is in it's place. Any helpful suggestions guys?

Have you tried Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware? If you haven't, you should. If MBAM doesn't remove that, you might have the same problem I found solved on the Malwarebyte's Forum.

In that case, Spybot showed both Fraud.WindowsProtectionSuite and Microsoft.Windows.Redirected Hosts. If that's what you get, try the solution here. They wound up deleting the Hosts file using FileAssassin - but maybe you won't have to go that far. Or maybe your problem is different; you didn't provide enough details for more than a guess.

In any case, post that HijackThis log - that is what this forum is for. This should have been posted under "Security and Malware Discussion", actually.

Ok guys. I think this laptop is clean now but I would like a second opinion. Here is the log. I have disabled the toshiba stuff in startup. Are there any of these peripherals that would be best removed completely? Thanks very much.

Hi Tarun, glad to see you here. I cannot believe how fast you come around to look at logs. Every where else you end up waiting for days before you hear anything. I think you guys must still be under the radar.

Bon Temps is a fictional location in the Sookie Stackhouse series (True Blood tv show) and the books I've read thus far (only the first two cause I don't want to get ahead of the tv series, no spoilers!). It's really good and I totally recommend it.
