Speech Recognition

I decided to give this a try to help make writing/composing articles a bit faster and easier. It worked quite well for what I needed but it will take a bit of getting used to as well. This is also in Vista.

Has anyone ever tried to use this? I'm really surprised how well it works with a lot of software. I can only think of a few pieces of software that I've encountered where it doesn't work, such as Firefox, Pidgin and Steam.

Aside from that, it's a lot of fun to use. Even in mIRC. I was really surprised that it worked just fine (from what I could tell) in Thunderbird 5.0 Beta 1.

If you want to give it a try, Control Panel > Speech Recognition. Obviously you need a microphone to use this.

Too early in the morning (not enough coffee) to figure the "... let's set so double ..." part out.

.

It's a reference to a humorous mishap during a Windows speech demonstration.

I hope that Microsoft puts a lot of research into speech recognition and text-to-speech.
