While Windows 7 support has ended, and it's rather expensive if you want to pay to keep Windows up to date, there is a better option that's still free. You can still upgrade to Windows 10, completely free. You simply need the Media Creation Tool or Windows 10 Upgrade Helper. Both utilities can be found on this page. Your best course of action is to make a proper backup, then wipe your drive and install Windows 10 using your Windows 7 key.

Every time I open a program the print size is so small that I can hardly read it. I use the Ctrl key and click on the + sign to increase the print and I use the Ctrl key and roller on my mouse to increase the size of the print. However, I am asking is there another way to increase the print size without always doing the two things that I just mentioned. I think there must be one fix for this without always having to do the above. As an example, when I am downloading a program using the program wizard the print is so small that it is hard to read; this also applies to trying to read the licensing agreement for the program. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you …

Does anyone know if the information in the following link about System Volume information is valid for Windows 7 and 8 as well as XP? https://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/System_Volume_Information Specifically, does Windows 8 still store copies of each user's ntuser.dat file for each restore point there? Thanks in advance!!!

We have a laptop running Windows 7 with one administrator account and two user accounts. Only I have the password to the administrator account and I have not revealed it to anyone. I have raised the UAC setting to high. Somehow, the users still manage to install software on the computer. They've installed uTorrent (with contains the Conduit toolbar spyware/adware) thing that it installs into Chrome, Firefox, etc. They've also managed to install Adobe Reader X, and other software. How can I prevent users from installing software?

I run Win7 64bit Pro on my Dell 1520 laptop. Crashes began happening 3-4 weeks ago. At Tom Campbell's request (Adobe) via email I updated Flash Player to Mid-Nov '12 version. Freezing was occurring while playing the game. After the Flash update, while playing Internet game, "Garden of Time" by Playdom - I begin to get alerts via the Flash Player's dialog box. The dialog box msg is " (for example) "SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw: https://hog0-a.akamaihd.net/[[iMPORT]]/hog0-a.akamaihd.net/hog/pd/flash/game/95057/Main.swf cannot access http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v2/yo/r/UlIqmHJn-SK.gif. I can't seem to be able to complete the re-installation of windows. I inserted the system recovery Windows 7 home premium DVD and followed all prompts. It formatted the drive and did a partition. It worked fine until it got to the point where I got a window named "Windows Setup". It had the message Windows is now setting up the following items. Preparing driver installation Installing Drivers Preparing software installation Customizing software Checking AC power Verifying installation The first item "Preparing driver installation: was check marked. When it got to the 2nd item Installing Drivers (It seemed to freeze at this point) I let the machine continue to see if it …

Here's a "heads up" for a very useful recent (January 2012) webcast recording at the O'Reilly Community site. It's title is Diagnosing and Repairing Difficult Problems in Windows 7 with speaker Mike Halsey, who's the author of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Inside Out This is an excellent book, and I paid for a copy for my personal tech library -- you should consider doing so too -- if you need some help in sorting out Windows 7 problems such as diagnosing and recovering from the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death. The webcast was recorded and is (currently) replayable at http://event.on24.com/r.htm? e=386403&s=1&k=B7EC888CFE5FB5674D433A36D59316AE I don't know how l…

So how does everyone feel about Windows 7? I really enjoy Windows 7. Everything works very well and it's quite responsive. I'm currently using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I love it. I could never be convinced to go back to Windows Vista, XP, or any other for that matter. Besides, there's always VMs for nostalgia. :P

Hi, I am trying to start my friend's laptop but it doesn't want to boot up. When I start it normally it says "windows is loading files", but just stays there and never loads up. I tried starting in in Safe Mode and it say's "no bootable device, insert boot disk and press any key". I do not have a boot disk for this lap top. What are my options? Any help is apprciated. Thanks.

I decided to give this a try to help make writing/composing articles a bit faster and easier. It worked quite well for what I needed but it will take a bit of getting used to as well. This is also in Vista. Has anyone ever tried to use this? I'm really surprised how well it works with a lot of software. I can only think of a few pieces of software that I've encountered where it doesn't work, such as Firefox, Pidgin and Steam. Aside from that, it's a lot of fun to use. Even in mIRC. I was really surprised that it worked just fine (from what I could tell) in Thunderbird 5.0 Beta 1. If you want to give it a try, Control Panel > Speech Recognition. Obviously you n…

I recently installed win 7 Home Premium on a home built computer. MSI 760GM mobo,AMD quad core 3.0 ghz processor, 16 gig DDR3 ram, Nvidia 8400, 512 meg video card, and a 600 watt power supply. I have XP, win 7, PCLinuxOS, and Peppermint one Linux installed on a 500 gig HD. My question is, I got 3 updates on Monday, and one update today on win 7. Is this normal to get updates out of cycle? I was under the impression that updates were once a month.
