Ive been thinking about getting an optical mouse for awhile now. i do not use a mouse mat. better response than a wheel. but if i did get an optical mouse i do not want a wireless one as batty's etc. (will have alot of weight to mouse.)

What are your top 5 (Or Fav.) Corded Optical Mouses on the market at the moment.

I use a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (corded USB or PS/2) Had it for several years and I need a new one.

I've used the 3 button Microsoft Optical for years and it worked great. The 5 button Microsoft Optical can take some getting used to. The last one I tried, the 2 extra buttons were on the sides where they are easily pressed when moving the mouse or picking it up. You might want to try a friends before you commit to a 5 button Microsoft. Plus, the 3 button is $20 US cheaper.
