Posted September 28, 200618 yr Surely a USB port either works or does not work, there can't be no in between. Which is what seems to be happening to me. I have been trying to install a Belkin wireless USB network adapter on a computer. Everything starts ok, I install the software, it tells me to plug in the adaptor, I plug it in, it gets recognised, the installation carries on, the computer reboots, blah blah blah. I go to configure the adaptor, and windows cannot see it anymore, it tells me to plug it in, I already did during the installation and windows could see it then, why not now? I have phoned Belkin support and they tell me the USB port is at fault. Is there a way that anybody knows that will check for full functioning of USB ports?
September 28, 200618 yr Administrator If you're under warranty, contact the place you bought your pc and ask about a replacement. If that's out of the question, you can either do one of the two things. 1.) Purchase a USB 2.0 Loopback Test Utility running appx. $50 USD. 2.) Purchase a USB 2.0 PCI card for about $9 USD.

I'm still curious as to why the ports are recognised during installation though and not after.
