damian666 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Vistapack 2.4 The new version has arrived!! Nothing new in the resources department, but a whole new patcher made from scratch! Description: The Vistapack was originally made with the same tech as XPize to transform your old and boring Windows 2000 rig in a modern looking and feeling OS. But now its ported to a better installer, for me at least. With all respect for XPero, but it was a real pain that one... This one is much better to maintain. Safety: It takes the files from the host, backs it up, modifies a sample and puts the modified file back in the system. This ensures that you are using the latest files so no need for alerts like "Now I am using an old file, what if its updated by MS? Then i will be open for attack..." Nope, no need to worry. You keep the updated file. The pack uses ResHacker to change icons, bitmaps and some dialogs, to make it look like the new Windows Vista! Its rather safe in my opinion, but of course there are some risks when you modify system files. This is at your own risk!!! But no need to worry, there are few bugs that cause your pc not to boot or something. Personally i did not had that happening here. Of course, when you don't like it, you can uninstall the pack like any other software. Send me the bugs you find or some remarks, just let me know. greets damian666 Changelog: What's New in Vistapack 2.4 - 2000 version ===================================================== Release of new website!!! Capman Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Nice work damian666, and welcome to the Lunarsoft.
Ultimate Predator Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Very nice work. I used to work on a friends PC that was 2000, unfortunately they've upgraded to XP, so I won't have the chance to test it.
Eldmannen Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Doesn't look very Vista to me. Also, I have to say its a little bit suspicious that when a users first post ever on a forum contains a link to an .exe file.
Capman Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I think it can be considered safe, being that damian666 is a friend of Tarun's from MSFN.
damian666 Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 @ eldmannen well sorry man, but that is not very nice. i just thought i share this with you guy's and what do i get? well thats just f***** up! i hope other guy's CAN appriciate my work! damian666
Administrator Tarun Posted January 19, 2007 Administrator Posted January 19, 2007 Don't worry damian, Eldmannen is more of a Linux guy. I put your software on the frontpage. :happybday:
Eldmannen Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 @ eldmannen well sorry man, but that is not very nice. i just thought i share this with you guy's and what do i get? well thats just f***** up! i hope other guy's CAN appriciate my work! damian666 No disrespect was intended. Maybe I was a little blunt. Didn't mean anything personal. But I don't know you, and if someone who just registered their account on a forum, and that I never heard of before, makes a post, and that very first post contains a link to an executable, then that could indeed be considered a bit suspicious. Thanks for sharing, I hope there are people who do appreciate your work, but personally I don't think it looks very similar to Windows Vista. And patching executables is not clean, its a rather dirty hack. Sorry for being blunt. Welcome to the Lunarsoft forums, enjoy your stay and good luck.
damian666 Posted January 21, 2007 Author Posted January 21, 2007 @eldmannen well oke thats reasonable. sorry for that but i put a lot of work in it and then you get something like that. and why do you think it does not look like vista? damian666
Eldmannen Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 and why do you think it does not look like vista? Because when I put it side-by-side with a screenshot of Vista, I don't see much of similarities. The look of Vista is not in the icons, its in the glossy black start menu and the tinted half-transparent window decoration.
damian666 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 well that's touche for you, but thats something that cant be done in win 2000. so its as close as i can get! or do you know of a way to implement it in to win 2000? any help is welcome, even if we started on the wrong foot! thanx for the feedback. damian666 @ tarun thanx for the frontpage man cool!!!! the pack is updated, see first post
Administrator Tarun Posted January 22, 2007 Administrator Posted January 22, 2007 damian, do you plan to tag these with version numbers?
Eldmannen Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Well, Windows 2000 doesn't have any native theme-ability functionality, but it might be possible to theme it with third-party software such as WindowBlinds. Find a Vista theme for XP, I am sure there are many people who would appreciate that. Personally, I run XP but use the "Classic Windows"-look as used by Windows 2000.
damian666 Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 @ tarun. well i just go along with the changes, so i dont know if its usefull. because the changes are at the moment so small... it is not worth a version. so any ideas? @eldmannen windows blinds is a idea but is there not something thats free? i dont want any problems you know. do you know of a app like that? damian666
Eldmannen Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 No, WindowBlinds is not free. I don't know any app which is free either. You can version it like 1.0a and 1.0b or 1.0.1 or 1.0.0.1 for minor revisions.
damian666 Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 oke thanx for the reply man. and thats an idea the numbers and letters. i think im going to do that. damian666
Administrator Tarun Posted January 24, 2007 Administrator Posted January 24, 2007 damian, I think this might interest you. Read more here.
damian666 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 yep, thanx man. didnt see it. thats the way!but i just stink at nsis scripts oh well... damian666
Eldmannen Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Scripts are usually not all too difficult to write. You can always try to learn. NSIS comes with a couple example scripts, I believe. There are also a simple script generator; * http://www.nullsoft.com/free/nsis/makensitemplate.phtml
damian666 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 oh thanx, i will check it out. i am always willing to learn... but i got to have time for it... damian666
damian666 Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 hi guys, i updated the first post with a link to the vistapack2000 beta1 made with the XPize installer. its beta , so please dont use it on your live system, unless you like trhe vista look. because it wont install all files! the rest is ok, just that thingy... so please try this and let me know. damian666
Administrator Tarun Posted January 27, 2007 Administrator Posted January 27, 2007 You might wanna see if this would work with your pack. They say it can but... it can tend to look horrible on Win2K, so for now… XP’ers only please
damian666 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 thanx tarun i will look in to it. update the first post! damian666
Squeeto Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 No, WindowBlinds is not free. I don't know any app which is free either. WildBill was working on a project called TClock3 which could skin the taskbar/start button etc. (with transparancy). The original thread is a little cold but I know that he is still around. He might be on to TClock4 by now :happybday:
damian666 Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 well that would be cool, who needs vista then? if we can get it on 2000. let me know if you find something man. bye bye damian666
