Posted October 31, 200519 yr I can't run online AV scans in safe mode because I can't get online. I boot in safe mode with networking, but when I try to dial up I get "Error: Please install modem". On the Control Panel the "Phone and Modem" icon is not even there. What's with that?
October 31, 200519 yr Administrator Safe Mode loads the bare minimum to get into Windows XP. The networking is probably the LAN.
November 1, 200519 yr Author It must work in some versions of Windows, but apparently not this one. Not really important, just wondered if there was some kind of workaround.
December 5, 200519 yr Safe Mode is not for Online Purposess. It's only to take care of Business such as: Removing certain programs that won't Uninstall under Windows Itself and defrag which I recommend to myself. But other then getting on the Internet. Nope no way, no how
December 5, 200519 yr Author It's just that I've seen instructions to run online virus scans in safe mode. It often says that if you can't get online in safe mode, do it in normal mode, but never is it explained why you might not be able to get online in safe mode. I suppose there's no way to make it work with dialup, no big deal anyway.
