thanks for your assistance-

i used the wrong word - preventative; but i wanted to discover what could be wrong and "prevent" any future problems.

your program found 3 errors.

now to learn what to do. any advice before starting? or tricks?

thanks in advance-- cityman

it is also suggested run "Repair Permission" which is found in Tools Dialogue. xp home will need secedit.exe. (I use xp home).

I am unable to complete system file checker- I need Windows XP Home CD. Files needed to be copied for DLL.

i do not have one- my Win CD is mixed with the OEM Win CD. all compressed and mixed with trialware and drivers etc.

the CE is a recovery disk, so it will not work. or at least in the past it didn't.

thanks anyway

If your OEM CD is of Windows XP Home it will work just fine.
