Administrator Tarun Posted January 22, 2008 Administrator Posted January 22, 2008 Your log is clean, though it's interesting to see so few processes running. You can remove these if you want: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] "C:\Windows\system32\msconfig.exe" /auto Disable Java through the Control Panel applet. You can also disable the Windows Welcome Center at startup. Be sure to update your Java, as 1.6 update 4 is out.
Ultimate Predator Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Ok, will disabling java won't mean it won't work at all? How do I disable the Windows Welcome Center? Is it good ot have so few processes running?
Administrator Tarun Posted January 22, 2008 Administrator Posted January 22, 2008 Usually there is a full report of every running process. It almost looks like a log from Safe Mode. Try renaming HijackThis to HJTScan.exe or something similar and then post another log. Disabling the Java Updater will not stop java from working. You can also disable the tray icon under Miscellaneous. The Windows Welcome Center should have a checkmark in the lower left that you can uncheck to stop displaying it.
Ultimate Predator Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 Wasn't done in safe mode, nor is this one. Disabled Java updater, will update it later. Windows Welcome Center doesn't start-up. Luckily, I don't have that problem as I use OpenOffice.org. It seems it start Microsoft Groove that comes with Office, which is a "proprietary peer-to-peer collaborative software product aimed at teams with members who are likely to be regularly off-line or who do not share the same network security clearance". Doesn't sound like something that would be useful to most people, so you can probably remove, or disable it.
Administrator Tarun Posted January 24, 2008 Administrator Posted January 24, 2008 If he wishes to remove it, the safest method would be through Add/Remove Programs and editing the installed components from there.
Ultimate Predator Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 I'll be removing Microsoft Groove soon via T=arun's way, the taking away the unessecary entries that Eldmannen pointed out. Yes, I know, but OpenOffice doesn't correctly display certain .doc documents with comments, nor has the vast aray of options that MS Office has. Oh, I didn't know that as I don't often open/handle office documents. I heard that OpenOffice.org 2.4 will be released in some month(s), and that version 3.0 will be released in September. You might want to check back then to see if it got any better. C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exe wmpnscfg.exe is a process associated with Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service Configuration Application from Microsoft Corp.. You might be able to get rid of it, by opening Windows Media Player, going to settings/options and disabling network sharing.
