Posted February 9, 200817 yr Windows XP (english) + SP2. Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.13 GHz, 4gb RAM. Windows is shutting down a bit too slow. Why is this?
February 9, 200817 yr Administrator What do you have running when you shut down? How long does it take to shut down?
February 10, 200817 yr Author Like 21 processes when I shut down. I am not sure how long it takes, but it feels long. Kinda feels like it starts faster than it shuts down. Maybe a minute. February 11, 200817 yr Administrator Everything is clean, the only thing that caught my attention is that Apache and MySQL are on your computer and there are two instances of Apache running. Check your Event Viewer for any errors in the System log.
February 12, 200817 yr Author As I understand it there are two Apache processes because Apache runs a child-process. I am using Apache and MySQL (together with PHP) for local development. PHP is fun. Apache is not responsible though, uninstalled it, and shutdown are still slow.
February 12, 200817 yr Administrator I see nothing wrong with your HijackThis log and if you have no errors in your Event Log for System or Application then there's not too much to say really. It's possible that it could be a tweak that was made and there's always a remote chance it could be due to hardware, though I highly doubt that.
April 10, 200817 yr Hate to ask the obvious, but how slow is slow? And, slow compared to.... what exactly?
April 10, 200817 yr Author Hate to ask the obvious, but how slow is slow? And, slow compared to.... what exactly? Not sure. Perhaps about a minute. More slow, than I think it should take. More slow, than it did on my old computer. But it doesn't bother me much these days, as I rarely boot into Windows XP, since I now use Ubuntu Linux.
April 11, 200817 yr This could help your shutdown time E. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
April 15, 200817 yr Anything that signals winlogon or services.exe (depending on the stage during shutdown) that it's still working on stopping can cause a slow shutdown - any service or running driver. I don't think uphclean will help in this case, but I would suggest by starting to disable everything non-Microsoft via sysinternals' autoruns utility (and after the reboot run msconfig to catch anything that re-enables itself, just in case) and start from there...
