RTZ Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 this is found at http://www.download.com and http://www.orbitech.org/ developed by some high school students. it had a review in recent issue of PC World.I have not tried it but they claim its scan is fast and it found items that spysweeper missed and its free and offers choice of being on demand scanner or real time protection. It also at the site lets you look at the gui interface looks sharp but I was wondering if anyone of you Tech Wizards looked into it yet and have an opinion Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted April 20, 2008 Administrator Posted April 20, 2008 Hi laserjet, thanks for posting this. I downloaded a copy and will run it in a Virtual Machine to see what it does. Quote
RTZ Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 your quite welcome, and I hope your test goes well this way the rest of us will know if it's a worthwhile APP Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted April 20, 2008 Administrator Posted April 20, 2008 Here's my observations thus far: Start of program has a message box saying "Welcome to Hazard Shield"Has very large icons, which feel a bit like an overkill. They appear to be 48x48.Potentially dangerous option: Delete all backups when Hazard Shield closes. In Tools, the Process Manager does not show the extensions of applications that are running.Tools > System Tools > Service Manager tab. Services listed flicker every two seconds.Scans and updates are fast. Overall I wouldn't see this as being something I would use, nor would I recommend it. The GUI design is not something that feels consistent with most programs now-a-days. Quote
RTZ Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 ok then that settles that . thanks for the look see Quote
RTZ Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 I have been testing Hazard Shield in its new form 1.9. the developer http://www.orbitech.org/ has really worked on the bugs earlier version concerning the flickering GUI that Tarun found . It's scan is both fast and apparently very thorough. it caught and removed a Trojan that both Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware missed and easily removed it. It requires minimum of NetFramework 2.0 / NetFramework 3.5 highly recommended . It offers Real Time protection and its freeware. I'm not too keen on the real time but as a secondary scanner in ones arsenal against all the nasty stuff trying to invade ones PC it may be useful. Quote
Prm753 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I have been testing Hazard Shield in its new form 1.9. the developer http://www.orbitech.org/ has really worked on the bugs earlier version concerning the flickering GUI that Tarun found . It's scan is both fast and apparently very thorough. it caught and removed a Trojan that both Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware missed and easily removed it. It runs on NetFramework 2.0 . It offers Real Time protection and its freeware. I'm not too keen on the real time but as a secondary scanner in ones arsenal against all the nasty stuff trying to invade ones PC it may be useful. I'm about to test it myself, but I'm looking at the "runs on NetFramework 2.0" part of your post and shaking my head. That doesn't sound too good to me. Quote
RTZ Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Oops that now stands corrected. It requires minimum of NetFramework 2.0 but best to use NetFramework 3.5 with all the security and feature updates as per Tarun . Quote
Prm753 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I tested Hazard Shield, and I do not like the GUI. It seems very oddly designed. I did not see it against malware. I liked the "Tools section", however. Quote
RTZ Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 The GUI, it's not the best that's for sure. This program is still in its early stages of development. Prm753 , If you have any suggestions on how to refine it. Please forward them to me in a Personal Message I can try and pass your recommendations on to the developer. Thanks You RTZ Quote
RTZ Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 the Orbitech website is back up an improved and this is latest,Tarun concerning all those comments you found on it containing a Trojan or virus. It's a post at the website from the developer. http://www.orbitech.org/ Hazard Shield setup - virus? It appears quite a few antivirus programs are detecting Hazard Shield's setup as a threat. I really don't feel like contacting all of them and waiting forever for them to remove the false positive (it took AVG 2 months to remove the instsrv.exe false positive). Rather, I am going to change setup programs. I used Install Creator to create Hazard Shield's current setup. I am planning on using CreateInstall Free for Hazard Shield 1.9's setup. Another added plus, this one comes with an uninstaller that will be able to remove ALL parts of Hazard Shield, including the realtime protection! Quote
