SenutyEnool
G'day boss, mind running your eyes over my log. Administrator Tarun Posted July 28, 2008 Administrator Share Posted July 28, 2008 I don't see anything malicious at first glance. You may want to rename HijackThis.exe into something like Scanner.exe and then post a new log in case malware is hiding itself from HJT.

Administrator Tarun Posted July 29, 2008 Administrator Share Posted July 29, 2008 Nothing malicious listed in the logs. What sort of slowdowns are you experiencing?
SenutyEnool
Generally programs are slow to load, FF takes up to 20secs to load now, when it normally would only take 5-6secs. Downloading files has tripled in time, and even booting my system takes close to 10 mins. Thinking it might be time to use this system as a boat anchor and get a new one, however, with moving house next week that's WAYYYYY down the priority list. Could it be due to all the services that are running? To get this latest log, I rebooted my system, so that everything that loads was running (I normally go into Process Explorer and close some background applications) to hopefully track down what's bogging my system down. Any suggestions? Hmmm, another thought ( ::feels faint from having 2 thoughts in one day:: ), my system only has 14% disk space left, could this be part of the issue? Cheers :)
Administrator Tarun Posted July 30, 2008 Administrator Share Posted July 30, 2008 Yeah, low disk space can slow down a system. :)
SenutyEnool
Damnit! So what space should I leave to ensure this doesn't screw my system over? Cheers :)
Eldmannen
Well you should have no less than 2 gigabyte diskspace left, I think. Perhaps you need to defrag your file system.
Administrator Tarun Posted July 30, 2008 Administrator Share Posted July 30, 2008 It depends on the size of your hard drive. I somehow only wind up using half of my hard drive. Once we hear the size of your hard drive it'll be a bit easier to say what you should keep free. You may also want to run CCleaner.
SenutyEnool
Well you should have no less than 2 gigabyte diskspace left, I think. Perhaps you need to defrag your file system. Did a defrag, but only improved my system by 2.6%, and 2 Gb isn't enough really, especially seeing I use UTorrent a LOT. It depends on the size of your hard drive. I somehow only wind up using half of my hard drive. Once we hear the size of your hard drive it'll be a bit easier to say what you should keep free. You may also want to run CCleaner. Harddrive is 80Gb, was down to 6.5Gb space left and that's when it started to bog down, got ruthless with some programs that I had and have now increased my spare room to 19Gb which has improved my system somewhat. Found a good program which shows how much room is taken up by each individual directory (and down to file level) and was able to remove old programs which I don't use any more and some left over 'crud' from previously installed programs. After reading about your post on SuperAntiSpyware, I went and installed it on my system and ran a thorough check... lo and behold, 4 infections, which Spybot, MalwareBytes and Avast DIDN'T find. Cleaned them off my system and things are now back to normal. I think that by 'cleaning' up my drive and removing the 4 nasties is what achieved getting my system back to 'normal', I guess only time will tell. Thanks much for the help and suggestions. Cheers :)
Administrator Tarun Posted July 31, 2008 Administrator Share Posted July 31, 2008 Would you mind posting the log from SUPERAntiSpyware please? :)
Eldmannen
Well, I think that the Windows swap file is twice the size of the amount of RAM. So if you have 2 gb RAM maybe you should have 4 gb free space. If you have 4 gb RAM then perhaps you should have at least 8 gb free space. Disks space is pretty cheap. 1 terabyte for around $100, isn't it? So have 25 gb free space, that should do it. :)
