Ultimate Predator Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Apparently it has been discontinued, are there better FREE firewalls out there (excluding Zonealarm (buggy)/Kiero (going to be discontinued)/Oupost (unless someone can find the free version?))? Are SoftPerfect Personal Firewall(http://www.softperfect.com/products/firewall/)/Jetico Personal Firewall (http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/jpfirewall.htm) any good? I am only interested in spyware/adware/virus free programs. Thanks. Quote
1984 Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I dont know much about firewalls. What exactly is "buggy" in Zone alarms? I use zone alarm and havent had a problem (that i know of) as of yet. Are there specific problems and/or issues i should be looking for? To add to Ultimate Predators' question, is there a firewall that is free, but also uses very little resources? I would be interested. Thank you. Quote
Ultimate Predator Posted November 20, 2005 Author Posted November 20, 2005 As far as I know Sygate does, but is it being discontinued? Quote

However, if your wallet stretches that far consider getting a NAT Router. The majority of them have hardware firewalls, only showing the routers IP address to the outside world, thereby making your PC/s inaccessible if setup correctly. Cheers  Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted November 20, 2005 Administrator Posted November 20, 2005 ZoneAlarm is very bloated anymore, I know that for a fact. Since 2x they've been bloated like Norton. Quote
1984 Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 So Tarun, what do you suggest? Would a router suffice? Or this and a firewall? Quote
Ultimate Predator Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 I'm not up for getting a router, so anyone please suggest a good SOFTWARE firewall. Thanks. Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted November 21, 2005 Administrator Posted November 21, 2005 Either a router and/or Outpost Pro. Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted November 21, 2005 Administrator Posted November 21, 2005 Outpost Free. You can probably find the plugins from the Pro version. Quote
Ultimate Predator Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 Could you provide a link? Or is it the trial version which then slips into Free version after x amount of days? And do you know where I can get the plugins? Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted November 21, 2005 Administrator Posted November 21, 2005 Agnitum's website. Google is your friend. Quote
Ultimate Predator Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 I know this link, but its a trial, nothing more than a trial, I need freeware... Unless, as I said before is it the trial version which then slips into Free version after x amount of days? Everywhere I look for google for it says its just version 1, and that isn't from the official sites. Plus they don't update it, which means its no better than mine. Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted November 21, 2005 Administrator Posted November 21, 2005 Pro is a 30 day free trial, then you have to pay. The free version is the firewall without the plugins. (Same as Lavasoft's pay firewall) Quote
Ultimate Predator Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 I see, its really good, I like it a lot. Quote
