ElConquistador Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 My Antivirus program detected a worm and then crashed. I attempted to reopen it, was unable to obtain updates from the server. I tried numerous Antivirus websites, all of which are blocked or redirect me to a different site. How can I get rid of this? Quote

ElConquistador Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 Downloaded and was installing, but it quit because it could not create a connection with the server. Hopefully someone can tell me a way to manually change/remove the necessary files/registry. Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted November 11, 2008 Administrator Posted November 11, 2008 What quit on you and what was the error? Quote
ElConquistador Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 What quit on you and what was the error? Downloading .NET Framework 2.0 was the screen where the error appeared. Error message: Error sending request: A connection with the server could not be established. Quote

Eldmannen Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Try to check your hosts file for suspicious entries. Quote
ElConquistador Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 Tarun: The software you provided took out some tracking cookies, but did not remove the infection. Eldmannen: The hosts file located in the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ appears as follows: # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost Is there another potential hosts file in a different location that is redirecting/blocking me? Your help is appreciated. Quote
