Posted January 5, 201015 yr Have a whole ton of Security updates that fail to install!!!! This topic I know has been discussed many time but after hours of surfing and trying different things nothing seems to work! Heavy frustration is settling here! Even Dial a fix doesn't work. Help Please!!!!!! (Side bar) My computer stop recognizing my CD and DVD rom? Any relation there Totally frazzled! :P
January 5, 201015 yr Administrator Welcome to Lunarsoft. You may want to use the Anti-Malware Toolkit and check for malware, then try Dial-a-fix again (and post a log for it as well).
January 5, 201015 yr "Fail to install" is not a good technical explanation of what happen. You should include any error messages, such as "Error code: 12345. Error in A version B caused by C due to D."
January 5, 201015 yr Author I go to windows updates(or icon of the yellow shield in the bottom righthand corner of the screen),it tells me I have 51 critical updates,I click the download and install button, most of the updates download but when it comes to installing it runs through them at lightning speed ad says they were not installed. No error code or anything.Didn't find any Malware and Dial a fix still does'nt work: Here's a log of the updates: Security Update for Windows XP (KB950762) Security Update for Windows XP (KB951376) Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748) Security Update for Outlook Express for Windows XP (KB951066) Security Update for Windows XP (KB946648) Security Update for Windows XP (KB952954) Security Update for Windows XP (KB950974) Update for Windows XP (KB952287) Security Update for Windows XP (KB954459) Security Update for Windows XP (KB957097) Security Update for Windows XP (KB956803) Security Update for Windows XP (KB958687) Update for Windows XP (KB967715) Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) Security Update for Windows XP (KB956572) Security Update for Windows XP (KB952004) Security Update for Windows XP (KB960803) Security Update for Windows XP (KB959426) Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows XP (KB961501) Security Update for Windows XP (KB970238) Security Update for Windows XP (KB971633) Security Update for Windows XP (KB971557) Security Update for Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB973540) Security Update for Windows XP (KB973869) Security Update for Windows XP (KB956744) Security Update for Windows XP (KB973354) Security Update for Windows XP (KB973507) Security Update for Windows XP (KB960859) Security Update for Windows XP (KB971657) Security Update for Windows XP (KB961371) Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB956844) Security Update for Windows Media Format Runtime 9, 9.5 & 11 for Windows XP SP 3 (KB968816) Security Update for Windows Media Format Runtime 9, 9.5 & 11 for Windows XP SP 3 (KB954155) Security Update for Windows XP (KB975025) Security Update for Windows XP (KB974571) Security Update for Windows XP (KB974112) Security Update for Windows XP (KB971486) Security Update for Windows XP (KB958869) Security Update for Windows XP (KB969059) Update for Windows XP (KB973687) Security Update for Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB952069) Update for Windows XP (KB976098) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB976325) Update for Windows XP (KB970430) Update for Windows XP (KB971737) Security Update for Windows XP (KB974318) Security Update for Windows XP (KB974392) Update for Windows XP (KB955759) Security Update for Windows XP (KB973904) Oh......did I tell you I know enough about computers to be dangerous?
January 6, 201015 yr Author Ran everything in dial a fix and no change-still will not except the updates.
January 6, 201015 yr When those updates attempt to install, they write individual log files in the WINDOWS directory. For example, Security Update for Windows XP (KB950762) will create KB950762.log. Have a look at some of the log files for the updates you have listed. (HINT: pick the smaller logfiles, not the larger ones.) There should be an error message towards the end. (Warning: the error messages are not always clear as to what is / is not happening.) If the log file is small enough (e.g. a few kB only) post that along with the log asked for by Tarun. .
January 7, 201015 yr Right - usually KB<KB number>.log. You can also look into the WindowsUpdate.log in the same folder for at least an error code and return code for each failed installation attempt.
