Dennis Ritchie, best known for his work with C and Unix passed away October 12, 2011. I'm sorry I didn't hear about this earlier. His death comes about a week after Steve Jobs death.

As one blog at CNN put it -- without Dennis Ritchie you might not be reading this.

He was far too gracious and humble to have ever said so himself, but dmr had a much greater claim to have changed the world than most others.

I don't know, it seems he was from an era where they worked hard at creating useful stuff. The guys now, though they do create useful stuff, they also work equally hard at creating a persona.

Down with celebrity, prefer humility.

Dennis Richie was a pioneer.
