Posted September 27, 201014 yr Administrator My long overdue upgrade arrived Saturday (25th). I've been in the progress of getting everything back up on this rig.Intel Core i7 980X (3.33GHz, 12MB L2 cache, 6 cores 64-bit)ATI HD 5970 2GB -> Nvidia GTX 760 OC 2GB 12GB DDR3 RAM 24" HD monitor 1.5TB HDD (16MB cache) Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Blu-ray 6x and 16x DVD+/- RW Power supply upgraded from 525W -> 850W Gold Corsair.
September 28, 201014 yr Sounds nice. Did you build it yourself or was this a pre-built system? Any pics?
September 28, 201014 yr That is a really nice system. Personally I would go with something less expensive, something in the mid-range, because components at the top-end are overpriced and the computer industry moves very fast so things quickly become obsolete. Doubt you will make use of even half that RAM. What motherboard, power supply, and case you have with that? Hope the monitor uses LED backlight. If you gonna spend that much money, perhaps you should go for an SSD too. With 1.5 TB perhaps it ought to have larger cache. Radeon 6xxx is just weeks away.

Here's the monitor: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-ST2410-24-Inch-16-Monitor/dp/B002S53CGE I can finally run VMs with ease again. :P
September 29, 201014 yr With 12GB RAM available have you switched to Windows 7 64-bit? (Panel on the left still shows "OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86") .
September 29, 201014 yr Author Administrator Yeah I'm on 64 bit now. I just haven't had much time to update yet since I've been transferring all of my data from the old computer to this one.
September 29, 201014 yr I missed this bit earlier: It was a gift ... That's pretty impressive for a gift! .
September 30, 201014 yr Author Administrator Yeah I was going to build my own, but was told if I went OEM I could get pretty much my pick of parts and not pay a penny. I really lucked out. :P
October 10, 20168 yr Author Administrator Might as well mention that over a year and a half ago I upgraded from: A dead ATI HD 5970 2GB -> Nvidia GTX 760 OC 2GB 525W PSU -> 850W Corsair PSU
