In the past, my experience with AVG has been good, but lately it's been giving me troubles. Not to mention, the interface is hideous and will probably always remain that way... First of all, before you condemn a piece of software, try understanding it first. The reason you get ads is because you 'didn't' 'De-select' the security AOL toolbar which is an option of your choice during the install process. I use it on 2 machines, declined the toolbar and have not received any spam or ads. It is a very generous freebie which achieves the same detection rates as Kaspersky 6.0 which means that it's on par with Antivir and has higher detection than both AVG & Avast. Uninstall it, use a reg cleaner and re-install without the toolbar and you will see for yourself. I have the definition updater set for every '15 minutes' and receive updates 12-15 times per day. "Oh install our great security toolbar...", "What does it do?", "It gives you ads", "Oh, I thought it was about security..." When I install a software, I shouldn't need to deselect "Install Crap", or install it, then uninstall part of it, then run regcleaners. Ifyou think its okay for software to ship with junk, then you've been bamboozled. It's amazing people think its okay for security software to come with junk and adware. Is it only me who goes "WTF?!" ? The day I will install software (especially security software) that comes with adware, that is the day when hell will freeze over. Monkey Proof Posted January 3, 2007 Share Posted January 3, 2007 funny thing is..whenever i hear AOL mentioned i think of ads, banners, popups, and what not. now if they can provide an actual anti-spyware product with out any of that crap i would be very surprised. essentialy thats their main source of revenue, adware and the like. The option should be to select it if you do want it, or do what CCleaner does and have different builds. It is kind of bad when a newbie who is just trying to clean up or protect their computer unwittingly ends up installing all kinds of other crap software at the same time. OOOOkay! Those 2 relate In the past week, i've uploaded 3 pieces of Malware to both VirusTotal & Jotti's and in each instance, your wonderful 'Avast' failed detection.
