Ultimate Predator
I think this si software related. My webcam when used with Windows Live Messenger (with A-Patch) keeps switching itself off. What can I do?
Eldmannen
Verify, that its correctly plugged in. Test it with another software. Try it on another computer...
Ultimate Predator
Its built-in to my laptop.
Administrator Tarun Posted April 18, 2008 Administrator Share Posted April 18, 2008 Do you have any other software you can test it with?
Capman
Just an idea, but could it be a power saving feature of the laptop causing it to turn off?
Ultimate Predator
Tarun - It comes wiht an in-built WebCam viewer thing, thats just good for taking pics of yourself. It doens't cuyt out on that. Gonna try it with Pidgin if I can. Capman - Not sure, how would I know?
Capman
That I don't know, it was just an idea, if I can get my eldest son off of WoW for long enough then I will borrow his laptop to have a play around and look at some settings, he has a built in cam too. That said though, if it is only cutting out on WLM and not other software, then it definitely sounds WLM related.
SenutyEnool
.......if I can get my eldest son off of WoW for long enough then I will borrow his laptop to have a play around and look at some settings........ BOOOOOO HISSSSSSSS! Mean dad! Do you know how much raid time you could be cutting into........? Hello, my name is Senutyenool and I'm a WoW Junkie.... it all started when...... Administrator Tarun Posted April 20, 2008 Administrator Share Posted April 20, 2008 Have you tried updating/reinstall Windows Live Messenger and seeing if the problem persists?
Ultimate Predator
Have you tried updating/reinstall Windows Live Messenger and seeing if the problem persists? Tried that numerous times, no luck. Oh, and the bit of software that I tired it with is called Acer OrbiCam. Another interesting thing to note is when I hit Advanced under Webcam settings WLM completely crashes and I have to open WLM again.

Heheh Cheers But surely living the WoW life every spare moment, such as when he is not sleeping, eating or working is a bad thing. Even my youngest boy has ditched the Xbox 360 to go back on WoW lately.
SenutyEnool
THREAD HIJACK WARNING! Yeah, the game can suck you in. It had me hooked for 10 months, spent every spare moment playing it, then hit the highest level and went; 'Now what?'. Gave it up after that, but will probably go back for a while once the new expansion is released. I know of 2 sets of couples that broke up because of this game. I'm one of the lucky ones where my better half also plays an on-line game and doesn't begrudge me the time I spent on WoW as long as I didn't bemoan the time she spent on hers. Cheers :hmm:

Administrator Tarun Posted April 22, 2008 Administrator Share Posted April 22, 2008 It sounds like it's just a problem with WLM. You may need to submit a bug report to Microsoft about it.

Yet to try it on Pidgin, but yeah, if don't work then, I'll tell MS.

Ultimate Predator
Couldn't get Pidgin to work, I am gonna assume now that this is WLM's fault. Oh well.
Administrator Tarun Posted May 3, 2008 Administrator Share Posted May 3, 2008 Yahoo also has a webcam feature, but that would be up to you if you want to try it on there.

Mr. Thunderbird
Could be a driver problem, I would suggest re-installing and updating the driver (and the driver software). As it's an acer, you can go at acer's homepage and download them there. EDIT: Added link. Clik Me.
