corjello Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 why is my avast continuously scanning files on my computer? i have not told it to do a system scan, yet when i click on the blue ball by the clock, the numbers next to scan count continue to go up. )corjello( Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted July 13, 2006 Administrator Posted July 13, 2006 Real time scanning is most likely enabled. Quote
corjello Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 so should i shut that off if i want to reduce the amount of ram its using up? )corjello( Quote
Administrator Tarun Posted July 13, 2006 Administrator Posted July 13, 2006 That's what's really up to you. Do you often get viruses or would you feel safe with it off? I personally do not run a real-time anti-virus scanner. Though I do have one installed, I haven't scanned with it for months. :P Quote
corjello Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 yea, honestly i feel completely safe without a virus scanner, ive got duece firewalls, plus windows defender running, and im not a complete id*** when it comes to compuers. the only question is, how do i tell avast to stop active scaning? )corjello( Quote
MrT Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 right click avast! antivirus icon in the system tray and select On-Access Protection Control option. the avast! On-Access Scanner window appears, click the Terminate button. then OK button. you may want to disable other shields as well... Quote
3atAbull3t Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 What's great about avast is unlike McAfee or Symantec, it's not a resource hog. Having the real-time scan enabled shouldn't consume that much memory. Quote
zaphirer Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Exercise safe surfing habits and you'll be fine aka, no free p0rn, no h4x, no stupid "CLICK HERE TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE" links. Quote
