Administrator Tarun Posted January 9, 2007 Administrator Share Posted January 9, 2007 What Java Runtime are you currently using? You can check by going into Control Panel > Java > General tab > About While you're in there, you can go to the Update tab and uncheck the Automatic Update check. Your Java should have a line such as: Version 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0-b105)
JMac
This is the version i am running Version 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0-b105)
Administrator Tarun Posted January 9, 2007 Administrator Share Posted January 9, 2007 Have you installed patch 7.0.1 by chance? You may be able to put the cd in and run the uninstaller from there. Java 1.6.0 isn't working with many applications, including Firefox. :\
greenknight
I haven't had any problems with JRE 1.6.0 in any of my Firefox builds. Same Java build, too.
Administrator Tarun Posted January 9, 2007 Administrator Share Posted January 9, 2007 Firefox told me that Java 1.6.0 wasn't compatible with Firefox 2.0.0.
Ultimate Predator
Its fine with me, but it doesn't work 100% with OpenOffice, though I'm upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007 soon.
Eldmannen
I really really really hate alot when software cant be uninstalled and the uninstallers are broken.
Ultimate Predator
I agree, really bad marksmanship.
greenknight
Firefox told me that Java 1.6.0 wasn't compatible with Firefox 2.0.0.1 I just read a post from a Firefox dev, explaining why that's not really a problem for end users - see zeniko's post in this thread: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.ph...&highlight=
JMac
I tried using the cd uninstaller this time and it keeps bringing up the same error.
woodbutcher
I tried using the cd uninstaller this time and it keeps bringing up the same error. This is what I do when the same thing happens: Wrtie down the program name and manufacturer (such as Symantec and Norton) Open regedit, and do a search for all of the occurences of the program, delete the keys. Then go to program files and delete the folders, reboot, re-search the registry.
Administrator Tarun Posted January 13, 2007 Administrator Share Posted January 13, 2007 Reinstalling over the old install may also help.
Eldmannen
By the way, Compaq doesn't exist anymore, it was bought by HP (Hewlett-Packard). Back in the days when Compaq existed, it used to be considered a noob-brand. They had crappy and ugly low-performance computers sold at high prices and preloaded with bunch of junk.
