Firefox extensions. Which do you use?

Trashed TabBrowser Prefs, and replaced it with Tab Mix Plus.

You will no longer need the following:  Mouse Gestures, New Tab Button on Tab Bar, Tabbrowser Preferences.

Yup, I got the same thing, and it totally pwns! Plus, my FF seems to only use half the memory it used to! I don't know if it was that extension or not, but I sure do like it!

The easy way to make extensions work in a version of Firefox they haven't been updated for is to use the Nightly Tester Tools extension: http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/f...htly/index.html

It does other cool stuff, too - open your profile folder, launch Talkback or bring up a list of recent crash report IDs, install downloaded extensions or themes, take screenshots, insert a list of extensions to a textbox or the clipboard:

AllowClipboard Helper 0.5.3

BBCode 0.4.1.3

Bookmark Backup 0.4.1

ChatZilla 0.9.74

FlashGot 0.5.9.995

IE View Lite 1.2.1

Make Link 2.0.3

Nightly Tester Tools 1.1

QuickNote 0.6.0.2

ScrapBook 1.0.6

Talkback 2.0b1

WebmailCompose 0.6.6

Ditto build ID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060710 BonEcho/2.0b1 ID:2006071003

and it does all this from the Tools menu. You might have noticed I've also added Chatzilla, which is an irc client extension. Haven't done any chatting yet, though.

<edit> Got around to trying out Chatzilla, it really is as easy to use as they claim.

Flashblock

Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.

CustomizeGoogle

CustomizeGoogle is a Firefox extension that enhances Google search results by adding extra information (like links to Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, MSN etc) and removing unwanted information (like ads and spam).

Adblock Filterset.G Updater

An extension for Firefox that automatically updates Filterset.G. Also allows personal filters that persist across updates. Requires Adblock or Adblock Plus.

Adblock Plus

Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them. Right-click on a banner and choose “Adblock” from the context menu — the banner won’t be downloaded again. Or open Adblock Plus sidebar to see all elements of the page and block the banners. You can use filters with wildcards or even regular expressions to block complete banner factories.

Compact Menu

Compact Menu is an extension for the Mozillan Browser (Firefox) and Mail client (Thunderbird) that allows you to reorganize the menu options on the menu bar in such a way that the user has more horizontal space on the menu bar to add buttons or other options. It allows you to have one option called 'Menu' which acts as a drop-down list in which the normal menu items are shown in the order that they would appear on the menu bar. You can also choose to not display the word 'Menu' and use an icon instead.

GMail Manager

This is a Firefox extension that allows you to manage multiple Gmail accounts and receive new mail notifications. Displays account details including unread messages, saved drafts, spam messages, labels with new mail, space used, and new mail snippets.

TabMixPlus

Tab Mix Plus enhances Firefox's tab browsing capabilities. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. It also includes a full-featured session manager with crash recovery that can save and restore combinations of opened tabs and windows.

Hi, how come no one uses PDF Download and Firetune anymore?

Anyways, this is my current list:

FireTune (Not really an extension. but a tiny program)

According to your specific computer speed and internet connection speed, FireTune will optimize several internal settings of Firefox for better performance. FireTune does NOT modify the Firefox executable, or any other Firefox binary file. Everything can be undone easily provided you saved your original profile configuration file with FireTune's profile backup feature before. Details on what exactly FireTune does canbe found in the FireTune helpfile.

http://www.totalidea.com/freestuff4.htm

Download Manager Tweak

A modification of the Firefox download manager that changes its appearance and allows it to be opened in a separate window, a new tab, or the sidebar.

IE View Lite

This is a cut down version of IE View by Paul Roub, which is 47.4 KB. All the same UI and features are there. It has a right click menu item to open a page in IE and a list of sites to always open in IE. Everything's just been rebuilt from the ground up to be smaller and more efficient. Plus, it has the ability to pass extra parameters to the executable (very helpful for use with WINE), which is not included in regular IE View.

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/morei...ication=firefox

PDF Download

Allows to choose if you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML), if you want to view it outside Firefox with your default or custom PDF reader, or if you want to download it!

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/636/

Tab Mix Plus (Great one Tarun!)

Got all the plugins as well, just download Flash and Java, WMP automatically detected, and also use K Lite Mega Codec Pack for the rest (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm)

Cheers, I figured it out recently. Actually, I no longer use FF, I was starting to find too many pages that didn't display correctly, I'm just patiently waiting for IE7, but I do have way more respect for it than before, and would recommend those extensions/plugins that I posted to all that use it.

I tried using Opera once but it lacked things I actively use. What they did have as "widgets" were total and utter crap. There wasn't very smooth integration or ease-of-use for them either. With Firefox it's simple and fast. Sure, Opera may pass the acid2 test (more like one small portion of it) and be fast out of the box, but it still doesn't compare to Firefox.

I'm now giving NoScript a try.

NoScript provides extra protection for your Mozilla/Firefox or Flock browser: this extension allows JavaScript and Java execution only for trusted domains of your choice...

Don't know if I'm gonna keep it. It seems to be a little inconsistent in its action; and to use the features on some sites (like this one), you have to select the "Allow scripts globally" option, which basically turns it off. On the other hand, it's quick to change settings, and it blocks a lot of garbage. So I'm waffling...
