The pinned Service Pack 1 Download Links are so helpful, I have updated two computers to SP1 now, the first one I had to find SP1 myself, which wasn't too much of a problem, but today I just came straight to here, it made life easier. Thanks Tarun and good thinking.

How can I a) make it so that when I download somehting in Firefox (and in other apps which use this part of Vista), the window is 'open', as in the Browse folders option is always enabled? b) How can I make it that applications/windows are fully maximized automatically when opened? Cheers.

Hi, I was wondering how can I make it so that the text under icons on the desktop changes colour automatically (or alternatively, manually) to adjust to the type of wallpaper I display? For example, the text is currently always white, and if I have a background with lots of white, I can't read the text. Thank you.

  8. Started by Ultimate Predator,

I've heard that there are a lot of compatibility issues with Vista, and that it is a system hog. I say this because I'll probably be getting a new laptop soon, and so I don't know whether to go for Vista Home Premium or XP Pro.

I am curious to; * How much memory does Windows Vista use after installation, without any additional third-party software installed? * How much memory does Windows Vista use if you trim it down, and disable unnecessary stuff?

  12. I hope this is the right place to post this. Say if I get a laptop, with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. What would be the cheapest way of installing Windows Ultimate over it? I've been looking at all the features that Ultimate has to offer, and I really want to upgrade to it, when I get my laptop. Help would be much appreciated. Oh, and I live in the UK.

SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. is considering discounts or other promotions during the holidays to entice consumers to upgrade their PCs with Windows Vista, even though the new operating system isn't due to hit store shelves until January at the earliest. Any end-of-the-year effort to spur PC purchases would likely please many retailers and computer manufacturers, who fear disappointing sales during the crucial holiday as consumers wait for the highly anticipated and long-delayed software. 16. Microsoft is not a company renowned for helping serious competitors. However, the head of the software company's open source software lab, Sam Ramji, has said publicly in an online blog that he will help the open source Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client teams to get their products running on Windows Vista. In fact, Ramji has said that, as an advocate for open source, he has actually set aside office space space and make Microsoft engineers available to the Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird teams should they decide to take up the offer. 17. For theinquirer: By Nick Farrell: Monday 03 April 2006, 07:11 DESPITE the fact that its operating system keeps getting pushed back into the never-never, Microsoft has started labelling PCs as ‘Vista Ready’. Vole’s new program will involve slapping stickers on PCs that have enough RAM and other gear to handle the Windows Vista Home Basic. However, there is a slight problem with sticking the labels on every PC with current-generation processors, at least 512 megabytes of memory and a DirectX 9-class graphics processor. The Home Basic Vista can’t run the graphics section of the OS, which is probably one of the few highlight’s on the operating system that Microsoft …
