Alright, so whatever it is, it has a few nasty effects. First, whenever I click a link in a google search it doesnt go to it, it merely opens up a newtab in firefox and goes to some advertisement. Followed all the cleanup instructions to the letter. My install of NOD32 fails to run in safe mode, used the online scanner but gave up after 2 hours and 50%. Think I have way too much crap building up on my system (I tend to hang on to .zips etc., even when they've been deflated and installed ) Anyway, I suspect this is clean, but any comments welcomed. Avast, Live OneCare, and Spybot have found and "Removed" Virtumonde. The only problem at the moment is not being able to access anything in the Control Panel. Add/Remove Programs, Windows Firewall, Automatic Updates, etc. This is the message I receive: "Windows cannot access the specified device path, or file.
