Lunarsoft A brief history on Lunarsoft: When I first started I had many friends who needed help cleaning their computers. They knew that I was interested in computers and I was frequently asked if I knew anything about why they would be having popups, errors, slowdowns and many other issues. I would ask them to send me a HijackThis log and I would detail what they were infected with and explain how to remove it. All in a text document and also a .html document. I actually still have one of these. Over time word spread about my skills with malware removal. Requests from friends to help clean their machines or their friends computers grew to a point I could no l…

Please post any suggestions for the Lunarsoft Wiki here. If you would like to see something, anything added, please let us know and provide some detail. We currently have pages discussing the HOSTS file, PC Cleanup, PC Security, Freeware, Safe Mode and a few other pages. We would like to expand the knowledge base and provide more easy to read guides for both members and visitors. All suggestions are welcome!

Welcome! If you're reading this post you may very well be interested in being a part of our staff. We're in need of both Editors and Site Developers. For our Editors, age is no issue but maturity needs to be expressed in the writing. Ideal candidates will write original articles for the frontpage and it's subsections. If you have any experience, tell us about it. If you have a sample of previous work that's an asset as well. Proper English, spelling and grammar skills are a must. Spellchecking documents is fine and even recommended if you feel unsure. Websites such as BetaNews are excellent for news. For the News:Reference the website where the news is com…

Thursday, I got 2 emails purporting to be from Lunarsoft Forums, saying my account had been locked for security reasons, due to failed login attempts from London and Finland, respectively. They had links to secure my account and change my password. I assumed these were phishing emails, came here and logged in with no problem. I need to change my Yahoo password, actually. I was a little slow dealing with this, been busy trying to migrate my dual-boot setup to an SSD, and convert from MBR to GPT in the process. Thought if I just deleted Linux Mint and installed the latest version after Windows was up and running it would be easy... wrong! Almost there now, though …

I saw a recent announcement regarding updates to allow the site to be run using an SSL certificate. Have you considered using Lets Encrypt? It's a free, open-source implementation for acquiring and renewing SSL certificates. This allows you to minimize your operating costs while providing secure browsing to your users. The only catch I can think of is that the certificate won't work for users on XP prior to SP3 (hopefully a vast minority of your users). Thoughts?

I tried including an embedded image in a post the other day but could find no way of doing it. The image button only allows links to third-party URLs (i.e. image-hosting sites) and no way of being able to embed the image in my post. I'm sure I used to be able to do this, but not now. What am I missing? Is it a permissions issue? .

I have always, so far, posted without thinking about tagging. Is there any information on how the Tagging system works and how I should use it? Also, is there an easy way of listing all the existing tags, apart from just looking at the "Popular Tags" item in the sidebar on the main page? Finally, can I now go back to an existing post or topic and add tags now? .

I've noticed recently that sometimes one or two older posts that I have already read some time ago are re-appearing as unread when I next login. Today, there are two posts showing:- Windows XP >> Need a .dll file () Gamer's Hangout >> Mass Effect 3 () However, if I select the View New Content link and then Content I have not read they do not show up. Are these posts/topics that have been (silently) edited or is it a new bug in IP.Board? .

I'm not sure how, or if it's possible, but a single application thread like the Sysinternals page. Since the description, most links, etc are static, and only the version number and changes would need editing, I wonder if it's possible to have a thread that multiple people could update - without changing the user's status of course? I was going to update a few apps but as I began to do it I realized I was copying the same text over again - why not have a single thread for regularly updated apps popular here at Lunarsoft? If possible, collect a few images from the app's homepage and upload them to use to make for a nice thread home here (app image, download icon et…

I wanted to search for "USB" or "USB performance" and got the highly undesirable message: "One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords." So, this means we cannot very common IT terms less than four characters in length or which are on your forbidden list, which is an extremely bizarre restriction. Not very kosher at all, I reckon! Perhaps you've done it for site performance reasons *I can't imagine why else), but nevertheless ... TIP: To get around this absurd restriction, you can go to "old faithf…

Looks like the Board cannot handle the standard html entities for quotes, specifically ‘ ‘ left single quotation mark ’ ’ right single quotation mark “ “ left double quotation mark †” right double quotation mark See the newsbot stories (e.g. HERE) for examples. However, it CAN handle the numerical equivalents, which are #8216 #8217 #8220 and #8221, respectively. (Put the proper prefix "&" and suffix ";" around each and those numerical equivalents will be auto-converted when you hit the Post button.) .

Only a suggestion If you click either Wiki or News from the forums the links do nothing. The links (IMO) should point to the Start pages unless the user scrolls from within the drop down to a specific page. The Wiki link should point to Main page - instead of https://forums.lunarsoft.net/# - you could remove Main page from drop down (or not). The News link should point to Site - instead of https://forums.lunarsoft.net/# - you could remove Site from drop down (or not).

I have proposed a change to the wiki mainpage to begin to unify the styles of the wiki and the forum. You can see my proposed changes to the mainpage here. This came about after a chat with Tarun about making the two areas more coherent.

I used to be able to search an IP.Board by date, irrespective of content. The current Advanced Search dialog provides handy calendar drop-boxes to specify a starting and ending date, but the search then fails because I have left the keywords blank. What I am trying to do is to search for ALL posts that have been made in the last X days - where X is a small number such as 2 or 7 (meaning all posts in the last 2 days or last 7 days). Is this still possible? If so, how do I do it?
