We're running an internal WSUS server with GP pointing everyone to it. A few of my servers are having issues where Software Distribution grows and grows - with different results on servers from the exact same vmware template. Flushing is only a temporary solution - any ideas? I posted it here because it's a Windows Update related problem and Dial-a-fix is a Windows Update jack of all trades fixer upper. I also thought DjLizard was generally interested in odd WU behavior, hence I posted here.

I get this weirdness every time I run Dial-a-fix; when I check the log, it says " C:\Documents and Settings\Spence\Local Settings\Temp could not be completely emptied" - but that folder is always empty. What's with that? Not a serious problem, afaik, but it bugs me. Rebooting and running it again, as prompted, makes no difference. Are there ghosts in my Temp folder? I'm working on a prototype program that will (eventually) help fight one type of spyware infection - it's called TheNotifier, and it targets Winlogon/Notify attacks. Download: TheNotifier v0.0.0.33 (242KB, *.exe) Changelog: DjLizard.net I need everyone who uses Windows 2000 Professional, XP, Server 2003, or Vista to run this program. All it does (for now) is: Lists all Winlogon/Notify entries Lets you jump to a Winlogon/Notify registry entry Allows you to filter out the “known-good” entries What I need people to do is: Click "Known-good". Reply to this thread and let me know the Key and the DLLName of anything that still…

After having problems both downloading new software and Windows updates, I was recommended to download Dial-a-fix. I have selected both Fix Windows Installer and Windows Update. It has currently been running for approx. 30 minutes, and it says:"Stopping MSIServer" On average, how long time is required to fix problems like these? Brgds.

Hey All, I'm fairly new to this tool. However, I was hoping this tool resolved basic DCOM permission issues. This problem seems to keep rearing its ugly head and it is difficult to tell someone else how to fix this sometimes. If there's currently no support for this, can it be added? Thanks! Brandon

Many of my programs are not starting or functioning at all due to an error that states "This application has failed to start because OLEACC.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I've tried numerous tools to repair this problem but none have worked thus far. Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently using WinXP. Thanks.

I am new to DAF and found it worked great on local systems. I am wondering if there is a way to have DAF connect to a remote system if I have admin rights and perform the same fixes on the remote system? thanks

Hi, do you anticipate a beta version of DAF for Vista? I have spent the last two days trying to undo a problem in Windows Update. First, I could not install a new update kb925902. I was getting a code of 80070002. After doing the fixes that MS recommend to clear SoftwareDistribution, I ran into a different situation. I was finally able to install the update manually but now Windows Update constantly tells me that I need to: "Restart your computer to install important updates". No matter how many times that I restart the PC, I cannot get rid of this annoying situation and the popup windows telling me that I have to reboot. I also suspect that Windows Update will …

Thank you, Neil P.S.: I'm "try to find a replacement for this file". Wish me luck!! Firstly, let me thank you for an awesome tool... Secondly, I have run into a weird problem on a specific machine. I have been trying to help a friend via Crossloop (this is an easy version of VNC). The problem is not being able to view certain web pages in IE6. I suspected malware, and found none. I went to use DAF, and when I unzipped and opened it, all of the checkboxes are there, but neither my friend nor I (via remote) can see any of the words next to them. The same applies to IE6 - some web pages show, and some are blank. We upgraded to IE7 successfully, and still have the same problem. I downloaded Opera, and still have the same problem. The thing is - …
