Here is a DAF log of errors that occurred that DAF said it had no fix for. Notes about this log: 1) "->" denotes an external command being executed, and "-> (number)" indicates the return code from the previous command 2) Not all external command return codes are accurate, or useful 3) Sometimes commands return 0 (no error) even when they fail or crash 4) If an error occurs while registering an object, please send an email to: dial-a-fix@DjLizard.net and include a copy of this log DAF version: v0.60.0.24 --- System info --- OS: Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 IE version: 6.0.2800.1106 MPC: 51873-270 CPU: Pentium III (~500MHz) BIOS…

Hi, I just love DAF, you really make some time-saving software! Thank you. Now on to my suggestion for other tools maybe you could include in a future version: 1) Tool to clean all the restore points off except for the current one (like it does in disk cleanup), DAF would be much faster than waiting for disk cleanup to load. 2) Would it be possible to have it show all the ghosted (hidden) devices you have and let you select the ones you want to remove - like a checkmark list, and then automatically remove them? This would be great for those of us who have accumulated devices that we are no longer using and don't want to remove each one individually and wait fo…

I use two comptuers at work (one desktop and one laptop). On the desktop I can get to secure sites just fine, however, this is not the case for my laptop. My laptop is running XP Pro SP3 and while at work I cannot get to secure sites at all, but once I am at home I can get to the secure sites. Now my desktop and laptop site in the same subnet at work (in fact just one number is different in the last octet of the IP) and they go through the same proxy. I downloaded DAF on the laptop and it did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions. The only thing difference in the to computers is the desktop is running Vista. Thanks in advanced.

Hi! I have a server with 03 installed, and it houses my exchange server - problem is I have been trying to get assistance from MS for the last 3 mo regarding installing updates - specifically SP2 - and the person who is 'supposed' to be assisting at MS is on complete opposite time as I am, sends me an email at like 3:30am, and repeatedly closes the ticket by 5:30am because I haven't responded - but I don't get to work until 6:30 - which means I have to email to have her reopen the ticket which takes until that night because she isn't there when i am...and the cycle repeats... ANYway - this product was recommended to me, and I have used it on workstations with wonderfu…

Hi. I run Windows XP Home OS on my PC and have lost the ability to enter the Help and Support Center through the Start Menu default short cut. I am at a loss as to how to solve this problem. Whenever I try to use the shortcut , all that I am able to achieve is the gong alarm and the message "Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file click the Start button and then click Search", followed by OK click to close the message. There are serveral files shown when the Search facililty is utilised to trace "helpctr.exe", but I cannot, despite research, understand where I should type the file name or any other…

Reinstall BITS failed in Dial-a-Fix (0.60.0.24). It asks for the original SP2 disk, finds the file then I get an error window "Installation failed." The DAF log didn't give much useful info: 4/20/2008 8:11:09 PM -- Dial-a-fix : [v0.60.0.24] -- started 8:11:10 PM | Policy scan started 8:11:10 PM | Policy scan ended - no restrictive policies were found The original problem I'm trying to fix is that several services inlcuding BITS service do not start at startup. Error msg in services startup shows that the problem is with the qmgr.dll, hence the try to reinstall BITS. Is there a way to figure out why BITS would not be reinstalled in DAF ? T…

Having a problem with installing new software and someone suggested Dial-A-Fix. I downloaded and ran it*, specifically, Fix Windows Installer. After it ran, there was nothing to show if there were any errors found or if anything was fixed. Is this normal? *When I unzipped the Dial-A-Fix program, I received two notices before it opened: 1) external exception C0000006 2) system error code 1400 invalid window handle Thanks for any assistance. I try to run DAF v0.60.0.24 on a Windows 2003 Server and get a message sc.exe was not found in c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Administrator\Windows\system32. This will severely affect Dial-a-fix's ability to configure services. Please extract this file from your installation media and restart Dial-a-fix. DAF will skip all SC commands until this file is present. Similar messages for net.exe, net1.exe, netsh.exe, and regsvr32.exe. c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Administrator\Windows\system32 is the wrong place to look for these programs. They reside in c:\Windows\system32! How can I tell DAF to look at the right place? Thanks in advance Lothar

We had an end user in South Carolina, actually bring us his computer to see on earth was wrong. He had loaded XP Pro on it and could not get rid of the constant messages that there were updates that were not loaded. We were going to recommend him to a Commercial end program that would be a pretty good Do-It-All, however, he had said that he had tried Dial-A-Fix from the Net, and it seemed it worked for most people and wanted us to see if we could figure out....what was wrong with the Program. On getting the system set up, we IMMEDIATELY noted that what he had indicated was true..105 updates that would not load. So we tried running the Dial-A-Fix and had the …

When using Dial-A-Fix v0.60.0.24 and selecting "Programming core/runtimes" I'm getting an error that says: An error occurred during registration of the file: C:\Windows\system32\scrrun.dll(version 5.6.0.8820) the next dialog says Error 0x80004005: 'Unspecified error'. This object might be corrupted (try SFC /purgecache and SFC /scannow in the tools dialog) or try to find a replacement for this file Contact dial-a-fix@DjLizard.net for more assistance. After running SFC /purgecache and SFC /scannow it didn't fix the problem. I downloaded scrrun.dll and that didn't fix the problem. I downloaded Scripting Engine 5.6 for Windows XP WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script…

I just spent a few "happy" hours on a computer that would download updates but not install them (or leave an error message in the online Update History). It turned out that a whole little section of the Registry was missing: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn] "DLLName"="WlNotify.dll" "Lock"="SensLockEvent" "Logon"="SensLogonEvent" "Logoff"="SensLogoffEvent" "Safe"=dword:00000001 "MaxWait"=dword:00000258 "StartScreenSaver"="SensStartScreenSaverEvent" "StopScreenSaver"="SensStopScreenSaverEvent" "Startup"="SensStartupEvent" "Shutdown"="SensShutdownEvent" "StartShell"="SensStartShellEvent" "P…

Hello, I'm running XP Pro with SP2. I had to do a system repair recently which removes previous XP updates and won't let you re-install them, which is why Dial-A-Fix is such great tool. I also tried to re-install SP3 but it gets about half way and quits, supposedly reverting back to SP2 files. Anyway, while running Dial-A-Fix v0.60.0.24 I get a pane that states "Error-2147024891 was encountered while trying to dllInstall C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dll. The error text is: Access is denied. Dial-A-Fix currently has no suggestions for this error code..... (etc)." Does anybody know what's going on? Thanks

Hello. When I found dial-a-fix (downloaded & tried latest version, v0.60.0.24), I was hoping it would solve a long-standing problem I've had. Using XP w/SP2 & all the latest updates. What happens is occasionally (3-5 times a day) at no apparent timing interaction with any other programs (sometimes even happens at boot with no programs opened) the taskbar hides, and any open windows will not respond to attempts to click on anything (like minimize, links, etc.) until I either do ctrl-alt-del to bring up the taskbar (and then just close it) or do alt-tab and bring up a window, and then viola, all is fine again... for awhile. I do not recall exactly when this started …

I haven't seen anything that suggests Dial-A-Fix can provide a report of things that it would address. It would be nice to be able to first run it in report-only mode to see what it thinks differs from what it would set things to.

I used Dial-a-fix to repair a problem with not being able to download and install MS Updates. It worked very well and my updated are now all installed. But a problem occured after I rebooted. I lost the othe user account . Her documents are in the computer but her account is gone and she can't log on. I tried readding her as a new user, but it said the account already exsists. Did I forget to checkmark something when I ran the program? Thanks, Chris.
