When I run the "Repair Permissions" function of Dial-a-Fix (v 0.6.0.0.24), it deletes the Limited Account user logons from my opening XP Welcome Screen. In addition, these Limited Accounts are no longer listed under "User Accounts" on my PC [Control Panel | User Accounts]. Curiously, the actual files associated with this Limited Account [C:\Documents and Settings\"Limited Account"\*.*] seemingly remain intact. Any suggestions for correcting this problem, and getting Dial-A-Fix to run correctly? Dial-a-Fix was recommended to me as a possible solution for fixing a problem that I encountered while trying to install AVG 8.0.

I was running Dial-a-fix on an Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz PC with about 382MB RAM, XP SP 1 (Dial-a-fix version 0.06.0.24) and got the error message "Error during registration of C:\Windows\system32\wuaueng.dll - version: 7.2.6001.784. The error returned is: The specified service has been marked for deletion. (-2147023824)" I rebooted the PC and re-ran Dial-a-fix with the same result. I also got two Error 127 for file qmgr.dll (not registerable and not unregisterable or file corrupted). Windows itself seems to be working fine, except automatic updates are unable to be enabled. I even went into services.msc and tried to enable them with no luck. This is the only time I've…

I was having Windows Installer problems as well as problems with Windows Update. After running dial a fix, both of those issues were fixed. However, now my computer is really slow and some things don't work: -McAfee Security Center doesn't open (and takes forever to load when my computer is starting) -Control Panel doesn't open - My scanner isn't working - My external hard drive isn't working - when rebooting, I get a message saying explorer.exe is not responding - iTunes takes several minutes to load - Recycle Bin doesn't open That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have just installed sp3 and now have a weird problem which I hope can be fixed by diala fix. When I drag any open minimized window across the screen, there is a ripple effect, like a mouse pointer with multiple images syndrome. When I stop dragging the window, the other windows catch up and I have one open window. This also happens when I scroll down a page Does anyone know of dial a fix can sort this out? Cheers John

I've been advised to use dial-a-fix to "repair/install" IE. When I run dial-a-fix, it asks me to insert the CD Rom for Windows XP Home Edition. I don't have one - the computer came already loaded with it - don't even know if I got a CD of XP with it. Is there another option?

If I try to run the Reset WMI/WBEM tool in DAF, it fails to work, with this error message What's the deal with that? I tried Reinstall WMI/WBEM, that ran ok - but I still get the error if I run the Reset tool. The problem I was hoping this might help with is occasional CPU spikes from an svchost process, causing annoying lag. Process Explorer shows WMI as one of the services running there, so I thought it worth a shot - couldn't hurt, anyway. No idea if it's gonna help or not, any other ideas for addressing that problem would be appreciated, as well. I've pretty well ruled out malware, run all kinds of scans.

Tried Dial-A-Fix, which has worked before, but it hung also. Tried it again and got error -2147023824 while trying to register C:\Windows\system32\wuaueng.dll. Just like the topic title says. I'm not sure if this is a known problem, or the reason for it (my guess is that its trying to delete c:\documents and settings\User\blahblah\Temp but has problems with the spaces. This cost me a lot of time and some files (managed to undelete the most important ones :)

I hope this is the right place for this question. If not, I apologize. On a couple of computers, after installing sp3, they crashed and windows would not restart. I used the command line uninstall and removed sp3. After booting into Windows GUI Windows 'System Properties' still shows sp3 as installed. Running 'Windows Update' from the Windows update site did not find any needed updates. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can answer for me. 1st: Would dial-a-fix, Flush Software Distribution cause sp3 to be available again for download? 2nd: What would correct the System Properties entry to show that sp3 was no longer installed? tks for any…

  16. Hello ! I have Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Live Messenger Beta (8.5). Two days ago, Microsoft released an update for WLM Beta by Windows Update. I can't install it, there is error 57A. I searched on the web, and I saw I can see the log of the error in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp ; the file must be called MSIxxxxx.LOG. I tried to go on this key with regedit but the access is refused : "Unable to UIPlugins". So I got repair permissions package. I had an error, the log are in C:\Windows\security\logs. Error 8: Insufficient space to treat this order. I have 5Go left, it's not enough ? Where is the problem ? pihug12 :hello:

Since upgrading to SP3 I am running into an interesting problem using any tools that prompt for installation media. I am asked insert the XP SP3 install CD. Of course there is no such thing and whatever Dial A Fix is looking for, it is not interested in the original XP SP2 disk. I even tried downloading the XP ISO file then making an SP3 CD, but Dial A Fix doesn't like that disk either. Has anyone come up with a workaround for this?

Sony Vaio - running Windows XP home - until a few days ago running perfectly. After downloading a windows update the other day, it will no longer send mail (error message below) , everything else, including internet connection, and receiving mail, is fine. I've read a million and one things online about this, and how to cure it, but nothing has worked. I've even re-formatted, and re-installed windows (and nothing else) and it still happens !!!! I know it's not an ISP mail server issue (or mail sat on the server), as my desktop, and another pc are connecting without any problems. I've also got a mail server on my domain - exactly the same with that one. I've also t…

I've been trying to help a friend install a wireless network adapter to his computer and have been running into the error message "windows could not load the installer for Net. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance," I've tried different adapters, both pci and usb with the same error message. I believe I've narrowed the problem down to the netcfgx.dll. I've tried using DAF but I keep getting an Error 126 telling me that netcfgx.dll can not be found even though it's in the system32 folder, it says that it is caused by a missing or corrupt dependency, or a dependency not present in the path or the current folder. 25. When I go to Windows Update and click on Express or Custom, the scanner starts but never stops running. The green bar just keeps going and going but to no avail. I have tried the Dial-a-fix version 0.60.0.24 and it has not helped with the problem. I checked on the green check at the bottom and ran it and it finished with no errors. I then did a Reinstall of Automatic Updates service and then did a Reinstall of BITS. Nothing has helped.
