Hello, I was having problems using Windows Update. At the site, the screen read: Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended) I did this, the files were downloaded, registered, but I kept being taken back to the initial "Register or reinstall the files..." page. Heard about DAF (v0.60.0.24) so I downloaded and ran it. I did the following in DAF: * #3: WU/WUAU: Fix Windows Update with all options checked (did not "FlushSoftwareDistribution") * #5: Ran with only the default "Programming Cores/Runtimes" checked. * A problem with one of the dlls was encountered (I forget which -- should have wrote it down). it was suggested to run "Repair Permiss…

Hello, I've got a problem with a Windows XP machine that hangs after a couple of minutes if the Automatic Update Service is running. If I run services.msc directly after startup and try to stop AUS, it eventually gives me an Error 1053. The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. If I disable the service in safe mode and restart, XP appears to run okay apart from the security center complaining that Automatic Updates are not turned on. The problem first started when I cloned the original ATA HDD onto a new SATA HDD with Acronis True Image. I don't know if this is related. I have tested the HDD with the Hitachi Drive Fitness Tool a…

Windows XP Pro - after a recent system crash (caused by a power cut), I managed to get everything evetually running correctly - including having to re-install Windows Installer. Everything is fine now, however it will not install windows downloads. It recognises them, and downloads, them OK, just won't install RPC and Crypto services are running, but I cannot start BITS - on attempting to, I get "Error 126 The specified module could not be found". I've ran 'dial a fix' to no avail, and also tried the BITs repair in the support section. This doesn't recognise ny SP2 disk (its a magazine copy?) I've also re-registered all of trhe folowing services - bt still get the sa…

tis isn't a DAF problem, per se, but has me & DAF totally stumped. Tried to do a repair install - after having to skip something like 40 files with the error 'setup cannot copy the file xxxx' even though the file was there, not corrupted & I have safeties on this & other comps just in case I eventually got up to a kind of running XP, looking just like it did before the repair. First problem... Windows Update doesn't work. OK, I've seen this before on other machines - some kind of registering DLLs i think, but no...tried all the usual suspects, dug out all the KB articles, typed lots of incomprehensible gibberish into cmd - no joy. Found DAF - oh my saviour! …

Hi, yesterday I tried using dial-a-fix as someone recommended to me here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/windows_v..._windows_update to try to fix a Windows XP SP2 computer that hasn't been able to use Windows Update since SP2 was installed on it when SP2 came out. I diligently made a system restore point in case something effed up, and then proceeded to run dial-a-fix. I selected the options for Fix Windows Installer and WU/WUAU which also selected the cryptography section automatically, and ran it. Tried WU, no success. I looked around the tools, ran the process idle commands tool just for the heck of it, ran another tool which I cannot remember, and then ran dial-a-f…

Hi, DAF version: v0.60.0.24; Windows 2000 pro; I ran DAF since I could not complete Windows update. Since I ran DAF the PC is slow to boot up and network and dial-up connections icons are missing. I am unable communicate with the PC. The wizard you use to create a connection stops with an error “icwconn1.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows …”. The hardware checks says the modem and network cards appear to be working fine. Any suggestions?

First let me say I love this program, brilliant. However, on a particular server I'm getting the wrong file location; it seems very keen to add the 'Documents and Settings\User.Domain\' to the path of all the system files. I'm currious on where it's getting that value, mainly cause I might fix the server if I can change it to what it's supposed to be! Thanks in advance, great work guys and girls. - Brian Slater

I am a new member, I am a coffee farmer in Hawaii and an ex silicon valley type. I had a problem with my desktop running XP Pro and heard about Dial-a Fix in an XP blog. I installed v0.60.0.24 of DAF and checked Prep, MSI and WU/WUAU. DAF added Fix SSL ...... All went well until "Stopping CRYPTSVC" and the computer has been hung there for the last 3 hours. I have never used DAF but I figure there must be a problem. What to Do???

Hi, DjL; I know that this log does not say much, but during a registration process of cim_ _ _ .dll. this big ugly Access Violation occurred during reset WMI/WBEM process in Tools. The program ran fine thru the whole thing..but then I got into the "TOOLS". Maybe I should have left well enough alone? I really want my REGISTRY cleaned up and out..badly! I thought that might do it for me. [?] I ran a free scan of REG SCAN before I found your program, and it told me I had 953 empty registry entries and a few other things totaling 1500 and something issues to be fixed. I never trust a free scan that says there's lots of stuff wrong just so you will purchase the program..…

Ok, so lets get to the point. Boot.ini somehow got edited and I changed it back to it's original state, however every program I try to download (and some programs I already have) say "[program name] is not a valid win32 application" It does this with administrator tools too, even system restore. I don't have a reinstallation disk, although I could get my friend to reinstall it with ubunto. Can anyone help me out? I was wondering if I should use dial-a-fix and if so, how I should use it. Thanks.

Hello, I was wondering if DAF works with Windows Vista. I can''t install some Windows Update. I purchase an eMachine a few months ago and everything was updating okay...for awhile. Now, I basically ignore the update (or Red Icon next to the lock Icon) upon shutdown. It seems fickle. When I boot up the Icon appear grey and happy -but other times it turns red. It might be red when I boot up - I've become somewhat jaded : ( Thanks! Clueless

Hello I've recently started to receive the following message from Dial-A-Fix when the Object Linking Libraries (OLE) section is ticked. I'm using Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24 Error 1114 while calling LoadLibrary(C:\Program Files\Common Files\system\Ole DB\sqlxmlx.dll). The error text is: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. . The file version is: 08.00.1117 I've tried: 1. Purging and then running System File Checker. (Everything is fine.) 2. Checked restrictive repair policies. (there aren't any) As far as I can recall I haven't made any changes to my system, although something must have changed. The only thing I can think of was the …

First, I've been using DAF for awhile. And it works great! Thanks. I think I can confirm that version 0.60.0.24 has an issue unregistering/reregistering windows installer 2.0 on win 98SE. Version 0.57.7.0 did not seem to have a problem. Or maybe that version just (re)registered msiexec without unregistering first. I guess the default location (on win 9x) for msiexec.exe is the system directory and DAF is expecting it to be the windows directory. ? Here's a full log. Just skip down to the "--- MSI ---" section. Notes about this log: 1) "->" denotes an external command being executed, and "-> (number)" indicates the return code from the pr…

I am running XP Pro. I have a fairly new computer. 2meg of ram. I have tried all manner of fixes suggested by other forums. Today I tried Dial-a-Fix with no luck. Attempted to use it a number of time. I did run HDtune, and check system health. I could not figure out how to use the memory check at www.memtest.org. The site was pretty confusing and I am not a computer guru by any stretch. What I did find MSI will always return the following message: "Insufficient Resources Exist to Complete the Requested Services". I tried running Dial-a-Fix even in Safe Mode. No difference. I had been attempting to install a cumulative update (KB939653) and an XP update (KB927891) …

Your program fixed my update issue and I also quit getting messages regarding certificates. Thanks for your efforts. I donated $10 via Paypal. I don't mind paying someone for their hard work when it works. It is the commercial crap that you buy that never performs as stated that ticks me off. I hope others will send what they can if they found your program useful. Otherwise what incentive does anyone like yourself have to spend time developing solutions to issues with OTHER peoples programs (such as Microsoft). Thanks

I have used Dial a Fix [v0.60.0.24] and my laptop is almost back to normal after trying almost every other program out there to fix it without success. When I can remember my paypal login etc I'll send a donation. But I still have one problem in that I cannot use Http: [iP address] to get to my wireless printer (and cannot install wirelessly via the HP software). It works fine from other PCs - so it is not the printer. I can see a winhttp.dll under one of your fixes - so I assumed this would fix it. Any ideas?
