Known problems: * Some old audio drivers</span> (like Crystal CS423x) are not compatible with SP 2.x. Please, update your audio drivers, if you have problem. * Uninstallation needs Windows 98 SE CD-ROM. It also doesn't remove all installed files. It only reverts back half of the installed files with original 98 SE files. So, It is not recommended that you do not uninstall the pack, unless you are having a serious problem. Important notes: * If you installed SP 2.x previously, just install this version without uninstalling old version. * If you want to make a localized version of this pack, you can find BAT (for making CAB files), and SED (for IEXPRESS) file…

Microsoft Windows 2000 Unofficial SP5 combines 403 hotfixes into a single hotfix - fully automated. It's not just a matter of determining file versions, there's much more to it. The interface is very easy to use since it's identical to a normal Windows update setup. Download: MajorGeeks (227 Mb, *.zip) Screenshot: Windows 2000 Unofficial SP5

Without Bill Gates, today’s Apple probably wouldn’t exist! In 1997, Microsoft rescued one-time and future nemesis Apple with a $150 million investment that breathe new life into a struggling Silicon Alley icon. In a remarkable feat of negotiating legerdemain, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs got needed cash — in return for non-voting shares — and an assurance that Microsoft would support Office for the Mac for five years. And while the fanboys didn’t exactly know what to make of the new friendship between the corporate equivalents of a mongoose and a cobra, their instinct was, of course, to be against it. As reported at the time by The Seattle Times, “The unexpected re…

I have an interesting(not really, but humor me) story to tell. I've spent maybe 3 hours a day for the last 2 days trying to make a working pc out of a couple junkers. The end result was going to be for a friend who didn't have a reliable pc. So I spent one day testing components and getting something together that works.(1.2 ghz celeron, 380mb ram(max 512), dvd-rom drive, all in a case that was the least crappy to work in. Next came software. I had an old windows me disc that I got probably 5 years ago and never used. I went through hell trying to get it to boot, only to make it work in 3 seconds after the right google search(long story). Anyway I get ME insta…

My brother has got a free (given by a mate) Windows 2000 Professional laptop. The specs are Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 4, 18GB hard drive (split into a 10 GIG partition for Windows and a 8 GIG partition for data), 391 MB RAM, not sure about the processor, and it some sort of Sony Vaio. It has two major and one minor issues: Ethernet - The major issue we really want to fix is this; my brother currently uses a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter between this home PC (XP, 512mb ram, 1.6 ghz) and the xbox 360, so he can use internet on it. We have been trying (and wondering) if it is possible to use the Ethernet cable to get the internet working on th…

For a few days I observe a strange effect in my win2000prof, SP4 installation. If I use the right-click or contextmenu in windows explorer the first time after system start - to have a file open with an application ("open with") - a small grey windos installer window pop-up and stops only after a few hits on "cancel". After this the right-click-menu works ok (during the whole PC-session) and I can open any kind of files via "open with". What might be the cause for that behaviour ? A few moth ago I found dial-a-fix and it helped me to fix an windows installer problem (at that time .msi file did not start). So I switched again to this tool and selected the …

Vistapack 2.4 The new version has arrived!! Nothing new in the resources department, but a whole new patcher made from scratch! Description: The Vistapack was originally made with the same tech as XPize to transform your old and boring Windows 2000 rig in a modern looking and feeling OS. But now its ported to a better installer, for me at least. With all respect for XPero, but it was a real pain that one... This one is much better to maintain. Safety: It takes the files from the host, backs it up, modifies a sample and puts the modified file back in the system. This ensures that you are using the latest files so no need for alerts like "Now I am using …

Does anyone know how to redirect sfc in Windows 2000 sp4? Are the reg keys the same as in Windows XP? 1. After creating X:\i386 (X represents the drive letter of your choice; substitute the appropriate drive letter for X) 2. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup - SourcePath = X:\ - Installation Source = X:\i386 - ServicePackSourcePath = X:\ 3. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion - SourcePath = X:\i386 4. Reboot - Then sfc /scannow * These changes work for XP, but are there different/additional keys that need adjusting in 2000? Thanks.

Ok, no one seems to have this OS sooooooo thought I'd ask a question LOL My Mother (bless her heart) still has WIN 98 second addition (I'm going to fix that when I can) and she is NOT on the internet at this time as DAD got the NEW computer. She plays a game called Mahjong all the time on her computer, that was downloaded quite awhile back. She'll be playing for awhile and then she keeps getting the below and others errors that I don't remember. I usually just have her set her desktop back, and reboot and then she's good to go for awhile longer. I'm just wondering if maybe there is a memory leak in the computer? Or what is going on? I have reinstalled 98 2…

The first thing i did was run it throught windows update about 6 times. Now that ive updated everthing i could, i get this one update for Outlook express thats a "critcal" that wont go away. Everysingle time ive run the winows update it marks it as if i havent installed it and prompts me that i should install it right away. My automatic update is doing it to me also. The thing is, when it shows the details for the file size, it lists it as 0, zero, nothing. But it wont go away. Any help on why its messed up? Im kinda confused cause th…

A while back I posted on ccleaner about problems getting the right drivers for a mates Win 2000 comp, which incidentally Dj started to help me with just before he declared he was never going to post on there anymore. Anyway, since that time, I managed to get everything working OK, except for the graphics, and got to the stage where I just did not want to try anymore graphics drivers, because they all claimed to be the right one but never were. As a last resort, my mate bought a Radeon 7000 graphics card, which I installed, and thought everything would be OK. However when we went to play a DVD on the comp, we got an error message stating no graphics adaptor was in…
